sublime covered this song live on WBCN radio station in boston. the DJ told everyone that they would play "date rape", but sublime is not going to be told what to play. so the DJ, Charles Lacquedera, says "Can you guys please play date rape now, please? I kinda promised them you would." and sublime says, "ok". then they cover this song. its actually quite brilliant. punk as fuck |

mary is only 16, but he wrote this song when he was 15. kids grow up a lot between 15 and 16, especially boys. the song is about getting lucky with an "older woman" |

i think this song is about being young and wanting to have a politcal opinion but being confused by all you hear. its about sorting through propaganda to try and find the truth. music is the only thing that never bends the truth. |

i like the electric version better. the song is about going on tour and leaving a loved one behind. and in this account, the long distance relationship isnt working. or it might just be in general about a long distance relationship, touring would just make sense in the case of against me! |

i think in the lyric sheet that accompanies the CD it says "song". a lot of times, an artist will change a word or two at the last minute and itll be too late to change the lyrics sheet. i think its actually kind of cool when that happens. great song though. |

its funny because when comments first began for this song, the band hadnt sold out yet and they were like the definition of the spirit of punk. i had never even heard of against me! imagine they are my favorite band and i didnt even hear them until after they sold out. o well at least the music lasts forever, so if i only play this CD then they will be incredible forever. |

to EZLN and others: i agree, it sucks when a band sells out. I still like "clarity" even though its slow and betray's what the band stands for, but i also want another "re-inventing axl rose". well i know that im never gonna get it, but of course ya do miss the old stuff, whether it's against me!, rancid, anti-flag, hell even the clash (although they were on CBS from the beginning). few bands never sell out. minor threat, operation ivy. i look up to these bands for what they did (or didnt do), but i understand that not every band would rather break up than make a million dollars. i just hope against me! does something positive with the money they're gonna be making (like destroy the world haha) |

i just think this song is about tough times and trying to raise kids and support a family while dealing with the struggles that come with lack of a job. more specifically, this song reminds me of images ive seen of the great depression in the 1930s. some of the lyrics just have that feel. a lot of people lost faith in god around that time. but it could apply, obviously, to any time period. i think the 'untouchable' part is like as long as we have each other (family) we'll make it through these tough times. i dont know, this could just be me trying to get away from the popular opinion. i used to think it was about religion too, but i think thats just part of it. |

thank you sink sink. i have been listening to this song a lot lately and decided that that's what i thought it meant (HIV, AIDS), but wasnt sure because i hadnt read the lyric sheet, and because without that 'sexual', that would be looking really far into the song. i like this song even more now |

my opinion was CLOSE to 'met the declines'. however, this is what i though: a perfect sitcom-esq family. father comes home late after sheating on mother and SHE blows HIS brains all over the wall. i could be wrong but its something to think about. |

the truth is, metallica rarely uses metaphors in their pre-black albums days (the first 4 cds being the only ones worth listening to). when people were analyzing "One", saying that it was about his mother's struggle with cancer, James replied, "Fuck, I just wanted to write a song about a guy that stepped on a land mine." most of their stuff is pretty straight forward, which leads me to believe that this song is about androids, cyborgs, robots, whatever you want to call them, sort of Terminator-esq. type thing. but what do i know im just a stupid punk rock kid. |

this song is so underrated. how come people always talk about NOFX's worst songs like "Bob" and "The Brews" and always leave out "She's Gone" and "Falling In Love" and "The Malachi Crunch"?
Oh yeah, and this song is about a woman who died, the things she left behind, and the effects she had on other people's lives. |

you know, ive been reading ur comments on real punk and "diet" punk and whatnot, and ive gotta say...WHO CARES? I like all kinds, from the Ramones and Sex Pistols, to NOFX and Rancid, and to, yes, blink-182. and blink is hardly even that different from the ramones. what did the ramones sing about? girls and food and parties and growing up? umm, blink sings about all the same shit, so quit ur bitching. ur forgetting what punk is really about: having fun and not caring what anyone else says.
Anyways this is a really great song. i wish they'd play more old stuff at their shows. its much better. |
