| Coheed and Cambria – The Hound (Of Blood and Rank) Lyrics | 11 years ago |

I would also weigh in and say that I think "The Hound" in this song is Mayo. In particular, Mayo is referred to as a "hound" and a "dog" several times in the third issue of the IKSSE: 3 comics. For example, as Mayo is reporting back to Ryan after losing a battle against Jesse, Ryan responds: "You have done the hound's work, General." Claudio also calls him a hound at the beginning of the issue: "And now Ryan's hound was on Inferno's scent..." The theory about this being a battle between Sizer (and perhaps Chase) and Mayo seems most accurate to me. I envision the early parts of NWFT covering Claudio's initial attack on House Atlantic, and I'm guessing that the IRO-BOTS who are still alive are there to back him up. I would even further predict that Sizer and Chase are essentially Claudio's "right and left hands" during the battle - i.e. they fight at his side. |

A LOT of the comments here are off base - mostly because they were made before the comics where released, so it is totally understandable for them to be off base- but akanakin has it right. This song is NOT about "Al's gun," because Al rarely uses a gun! He definitely does NOT have a "favorite sniper rifle" or anything like that, and he actually most often fights with a knife. The Faint of Hearts is actually a seedy dive bar where Claudio meets Al for the first time. Al hangs out there regularly. In terms of this song, I'm pretty sure it is supposed to give us both the general "character" of Al, but I think it also references a pretty specific moment from the comics. At one point, Ambellina (Claudio's "guardian angel") stumbles upon a room full of female corpses on Al's ship. Al attacks her from behind and paralyzes her with a poison, intending to rape her. I think the song is supposed to generally reference what Al has done to women in the past (i.e. have sex with them and then kill them), while also referencing what he is trying to do to Ambellina in the present. |

I think most of the interpretations here are fairly on the mark, but here is how I see it: If you have read the comics, you know there is an extended "flash forward" scene where Claudio is hanging out in Newo's back yard with her dog, Apollo. He takes advantage of his "invisibility" power to kind of spy on her while she is sleeping, though not really in a creepy way - he just misses her and wants to go back to her, but knows that he can't. He narrates most of the events of IKSSE:3 to Apollo right before he goes of to "burn Star IV" - i.e. defeat Wilhelm Ryan (the villain). I think this song is actually part of that sequence - either it is a "flash back" to the time when Claudio was in Newo's back yard, or he returns to her home yet again one more time. Either way, I've never been sure on the whole "Newo cheated on Claudio / wronged him" thing that people always bring up. Claudio (the author, not the character) has suggested that in interviews before, but he has also mentioned other things in interviews like that which don't end up happening in the stories. For example, everyone got the idea that Faint of Hearts was about Al the Killer's gun from an interview comment... and it turns out that when the comics were released, the Faint of Hearts is a seedy dive bar that Al hangs out at, and Al doesn't even use a gun at all (he kills people with a knife)! From what we have seen in the story so far, Claudio leaves Newo VERY early on after getting attacked by a priest (a minion of Wilhelm Ryan) and deliberately avoids her because he doesn't want her to become a target of his enemies. As far as I can tell, the whole "Newo cheats on Claudio" thing would make no sense - HE leaves HER! However, there might be part of the story we don't have yet that explains this. |

| Coheed and Cambria – In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
I haven't gotten through all of the IKSSE:3 comics, but I have gotten through the first 6 issues, and most of this song is covered in them. A few of the comments here are off base, probably because they were made before the comics came out. This song actually covers multiple battles between the Red Army (the villains, lead by Wilhelm Ryan and his general, Mayo Deftinwolf) and the rebels (the heroes, lead by Jesse, brother of Coheed and Cambria). Many of the lines in this song are actually spoken by various characters throughout the battles. The references to "Silent secrets" refers to Silent Earth: 3, a planet where one of the battles takes place. "Man your own jackhammer / Man your battle stations" - Jackhammers are gigantic spaceships used by Wilhelm Ryan's army that are so powerful their shots cause earthquakes. General Mayo Deftinwolf (the commander of Ryan's army) shouts this at some of his soldiers when they are getting ready to attack Jesse's forces with jackhammers. "Awake through motion with curiosity to curtain your first move Over arm's length they'll break protocol Jealous envy for the youngest one To be the hero is all I'll ask Can I be buried here among the dead? With room to honor me here in the end You'll be better off too soon You'll be better off when you get home" Most of this section is probably from the perspective of Sizer, an IRO-bot (basically a genetically modified half-human / half-robot) created by Jesse to battle Wilhelm Ryan's forces. Sizer, and his "sister," Chase, see Jesse as their "father," though Jesse deliberately tries to force them not to see him that way, as he created them simply to be used as weapons against Wilhelm Ryan. "For you I'd do anything Just to make you happy Hear you tell me that you're proud of me For them I'll kill anything Cut the throats of babies for them Break their hearts for they were them Waiting for you to say 'I love you too'" This section is probably from the perspective of Chase. The "you" she refers to is probably Jesse, whom she asks "are you proud of me?" after a particularly epic event in the battle. The "them" she refers to are probably the Prise, a race of angelic beings. During the battle, Chase uses special powers bred into her to destroy Ryan's army, then uses those same powers to essentially "rebirth" the Prise, many of who were destroyed by Ryan in a previous part of the story. "The navigator The pilot Her favorite The one they call the vision that bears the gift The navigator The pilot Her favorite The one they call the vision that bears the gift" I am pretty sure this section references various IRO-bots created by Jesse who fight during the battles against Wilhelm Ryan's forces. "The one they call the vision that bears the gift" is specifically referencing Chase - she is called "the vision who bears the gift" in the comics. The other references are probably just to other IRO-bots that appear in the battle. "Will, Do the children really understand The things you did to them? And why, oh why? Should they conjure up the will? For you, my love, I would kill him " This (and the next section) are the only parts I am a bit unclear on. I am betting that this is from the perspective of Jesse, speaking to Wilhelm Ryan after he is captured during the battle, asking him why he arranged the murders of Coheed, Cambria, and three of their four children. I'm lead to be believe this is Jesse because of the line "For you, my love, I would kill him" - Wilhelm Ryan also arranged the murder of Jesse's lover, Mariah, and I think this is Jesse thinking about all of the people Ryan killed as he talks to him. "In the seventh turning hour Will the victims shadow fall? Should the irony grow hungry? With the victory and all they sought for We were one among the Fence One among the Fence" This part is a bit unclear as well; however, I think it references the end of the battle on Silent Earth: 3, in which Wilhelm Ryan surrenders and is captured. The "hungry irony" is that being captured is all part of Ryan's plan. The heroes think they have achieved "the victory and all they sought for," but in reality, Ryan is simply leading them into a trap. |

| Coheed and Cambria – Pearl of the Stars Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Very well could be "our baby" - if Year of the Black Rainbow is a prequel to the other albums, then "our baby" could be Josephine, Coheed and Cambria's first child. No idea for sure though, I haven't read the novel that goes with the album. | |
| MC Chris – Wiid Lyrics | 16 years ago |

No, you are both reading waaaaaay too much into it. It's the last four lines of the song, and I see it kind of like the end of Half-Baked - he doesn't want to stop smoking, but he knows he has to because there is something he wants more. This song is not about "gettin fucked up, but doing is responsibly." The last few lines are the ONLY part of the song where you could get that kind of message, and those lines don't negate the rest of the song. This song doesn't have a "middle of the road viewpoint" - it CLEARLY advocates smoking weed, and smoking weed quite a bit. Personally, I see as almost a "love song" to marijuana. I mean, the chorus is "Weed is by my side, it's always been there" for christ's sake - It certainly isn't about "enjoying weed responsibly." |

Just loling at the reference to Farenheit 9/11... "hey guys, talk radio and tv news has all sorts of political bias, by the way watch this Michael Moore film which is 90% him making up and distorting facts as much as possible." The bullshit comes from both sides, my friend. The actual reason I wanted to post: On the kill the television line, I'm pretty sure it is supposed to be sarcastic. The point is that talk radio wants to "kill the television" news, but most of them are pulling the same nonsense that T.V. news is doing, just through a different medium. On the terms of "Bristol fashion" I think you have it mostly right, but I think you are missing the double reference to Bristol Palin. There is actually quite a bit less politics in most Aesop songs than most would think, but None Shall Pass is definitely his most political album. |

| Thrice – Come All You Weary Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
It's funny to me that someone would think this song alienated a bunch of Thrice fans. It's all opinion, of course, but this is the first Thrice song in years that has gotten me actually listening to them again. Vhiessu had some alright songs, but beyond that I got kind of tired of their post Illusion of Safety sound and stopped listening to them. I was rummaging around wikipedia looking at what some old bands I used to listen to and when I stumbled upon this song I was shocked at how good it is. And this is coming from a non-christian, by the way. I can appreciate the religious sentiment; it may not be for me, but that doesn't mean the song is bad. I feel sorry for people who only listen to music that reinforces their own personal beliefs. Open your mind and you might find yourself enjoying something that doesn't fall into your neatly defined categories. There is nothing wrong with exposing yourself to criticism of your beliefs - self-criticism is part of almost every major religious tradition, as much as 20th century religious rhetoric wants us to believe otherwise. |

"[Hook] Get out my face, ho! Get out my face, ho! Get out my face, ho! Get out my face, ho! Get out my face, ho! Get out my face, ho! Get out my face, ho! Get out my face (Yahhh!)" Truly brilliant songwriting. 10/10. |

| Aesop Rock – The Harbor Is Yours Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Some help on these lyrics. Not sure if these are any more accurate, but I am pretty sure these are right. REMIX! Dead men tell no tales Push the daises till the soil is stale ???? Mister big sleep with the carp and kale Once upon a time in the days of yore. When the people lived fresh out of legend and folk lore There was an old pirate who followed a vile slang Had a bird perched on him, that swashbuckled the same Peg leg navigated starboard to port By the nautical store and they're yellin the harbor is yours. You should tell him where you situate the gold Unless that is you'd like application with Davey J-J-J-Jones. Like walk plank, for whom the shark tank. Maroon the mutineers. Consume the souvenirs. And while the shiny spoils pile higher every year He was suffocating slow in the box of a buccaneer. Ten summers prior on a night like this Crows nest saw something that float to the boats west. Sword blew him a kiss. And when he focused seen the face of an Angel upon the body of a F-F-F-Fish. ..... Now he knew what he saw, had to prove he was raw So he raped and he pillaged and he?d feud any brawl. Tried to rekindle his rep using sabers and gun smoke And that?s always fine though he never told his cutthroats. Meanwhile, back in the now, Got a brand new skeleton crew on the move out ????????Cannon, stern, and bow They are pouring shiny metals out your M-M-M-Mouth. Okay,??????????..and disease like the scurvy made his yellow gums bleed. And he was achy from his boots to the feather in his hat ?Till his quartermaster showed up with a stolen treasure map. One look down and leapt off the dock. See if you can guess where X marked the spot. The capital was buried at sea in the cursed cave Only one mile away he seen the M-M-M-Mermaid. Anchors up, push the jolly roger way too much Day and night with his hook hands raised and clutched. But see, the vitamin deficiency was strong So by the time they broke into the island he could barely lift his grog Crawled off the boat, collapsed in the sand Prayers in the air, seashells in his hands And nary a high time so grand As the one that put the lady of the lake on dry L-L-L-Land |

| M.I.A. – Paper Planes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I think it's hilarious that people are trying to flame this song by saying it's supporting killing people for money. You should learn to read and analyze the lyrics before you go on spouting off about "gangster shit." Rap isn't all mindless drug culture and violence references. And in the hands of someone like M.I.A., especially considering the context of the subjkects she covers in her other songs, it's hard to believe that this song's message is "Yeah, go out and sell drugs and kill people!" But go back to your middle school debates about how "ROCK IS AWESOME AND RAP IS CRAP." Real people will continue listening to music and judging it by its merit instead of its genre. |

| The Get Up Kids – Alec Eiffel (Pixies cover) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
There's a difference between "I don't like " and "" sucks. You may not like Mozart or Beethoven, but if you say either one "sucks" then you are an idiot who has no knowledge of music - I'd love to see you try to compose music that people still listen to well over a century later. It's your own fault if you got bashed for coming on this thread making fun of the Pixies. If you don't like them, that's fine, but if you think they "suck", then I'd love to hear your band - I'd be willing to bet money that your music didn't inspire bands as big as Nirvana or the Get Up Kids. If you don't like the Pixies, that's fine. But coming here to bash the song because you A. Didn't know it was a cover (welcome to the internet, there's an awesome website called wikipedia you should see) or B. you think the Pixies "suck" means that you deserve every single insult you got. Don't post on a public forum on the internet if you can't take the heat. |

| Coheed and Cambria – Neverender Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I'm not sure about the whole interpretation of the song, but I'm pretty sure "(After the fire) I'll be home to say I love you and I'm moving on" is Claudio talking to Coheed and Cambria. At the end of the first comic Coheed and Cambria are attacked by Mayo and the Red Army, and Mayo orders the red army to burn down their home (from the comic): General Mayo: I also need two of your men to stay behind to set fire to this place. We musn't give the Killgannon boy the slighest idea of this encounter. I'm assuming that's what the last line is referring to. |

| Finch – Stay With Me Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| This is definently my favorite song on What it is to Burn... it has the whole pop punk feel that is in all their songs, but it is really played up in this one, but still manages to keep a hardcore sound as well. I can't wait to see them live at Warped. | |
| The Get Up Kids – Fall from Grace Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| This is my favorite song from On a Wire.. it was especially good live. I definently like the change in their sound, even though I like the older CDs as well. | |
| The Get Up Kids – Close to Me (The Cure cover) Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| Heh... I could tell this was a Cure song before I had ever acctually heard the Cure song. I heard this version first, and when I heard the original, I was amazed at how good a job they did covering it. | |
| The Get Up Kids – The Company Dime Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| Unlike most people, I thought this was a good song. It's a little poppy, but it sounds really cool. I especially like how they mix a happy sounding song with semi-sad lyrics. | |
| The Get Up Kids – The Breathing Method Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| This is one of my favorite Get up Kids songs... the screaming in the background just sounds so different and makes it stand out so much... and the intro to this song is absolutely amazing. The Get up Kids always write great intros for their songs (Ten Minutes, I'm a Loner Dottie, a Rebel...) and this is one of their best. | |
| Anti-Flag – Punk By The Book Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| This song is also about how some punks have this whole "Punker Than Thou" image and think that anyone who isn't as "punk" as them doesn't deserve to listen to "their" music or dress like them. | |
| Saves the Day – The Way His Collar Falls Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| When I get my acoustic, I vow to try to make this the very first song I learn. It's such a beautiful song. | |
| Saves the Day – Jessie and My Whetstone Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| Whenever I hear this song now I cry... I had heard it a million times before, but this girl I really liked put it on a mix tape for me and gave it to me when we were going to a concert together. Long story short, we also picked up my friend and by the end of the night they were making out in my back seat. When this song came on in the car, I started crying, and now I always tear up when I hear it. | |
| Saves the Day – The Way His Collar Falls Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| I'm pretty sure Chris is not gay. This song, at least how I see it, is just about how much he misses his friend. There was another discussion about Chris being Bi under Handsome Boy, and it was pretty much decided that he wasn't. | |
| Saves the Day – Rocks Tonic Juice Magic Lyrics | 23 years ago |

Well, my favorite Saves the Day song is firefly... but this fits me so incredibly well. It fits the situation between me and this girl I have known for about 2 years. I love her, but I can't have her, she doesn't have very much self-esteem, and I sometimes hate her for it. |
