I've gone into every Bright Eye's album since Fevers and Mirrors expecting to expect the unexpected. And I'm always pleasantly surprised. |

| Bright Eyes – Soul Singer in a Session Band Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
|
How can you say this song is happy? It's about the undoing of someone...how the soul singer in the session band is becoming obsolete, because all anyone cares about is celebrities making "blackberry calls" and how his music used to mean something, but now music means only "slipping cash in the hand." It details the state of today's music and radio industry and how sickening it really is. Happy is about the opposite. |

When he says "Everything is a cycle, you've got to let it come to you, and when it does you will know what to do. Without even knowing, I guess I took her advice..." That's what he learned from her. She lied about where she was from, all the men her age were mean - she had been hurt in the past, and in turn gave him the advice, and probably the same advice he will give "Don't trust a heart that's so bent it can't break." |

| Bright Eyes – I Believe in Symmetry Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
|
the whole album is about death, this is just the realization that no matter what we do, who we are, or where we live everyone is going to die. sometimes life is fast, sometimes slow, but we all start helpless and scared, and most times that's how things end. conor is just saying that he believes that life is symmetrical, it's a pretty literal title. |

how can you say jason mraz is clever? conor's emotion and the quivering of a voice that is on the edge of sorrow blow away any wannabe's version anyday. |

| Maria Taylor – Leap Year Lyrics
|
I think the first stanza is:
Save my money for that plane, I've
boarded plenty. Heavy sunlight
autumn's bounty, bread and red wine
In a hurry, but there's so much time...
And the chorus is:
I will wait for you,
Growing love, but like water
time will always slip through.
I will wait for you.
But please come soon.
This song is so beautiful, what an opener for a great debut album. |

if none of you commenting have never noticed conor's affection for cocaine, you aren't listening to the lyrics..."a line allows progress, a circle does not" is all about the endless spiral that is cocaine...i should know, i lived it. |

plasticflowers: of course not, but not all of conor's songs are about himself, and in the case of digital ash many of the songs are dream like references combining real and surreal life |

It should be John A. Hobson...He is a 1800s physicist who had a very distinct socialist/communist ideology....I agree with the 80s statement...I have listened to this one about 10 times since getting the album a few days ago. |

| Bright Eyes – Take It Easy (Love Nothing) Lyrics

This song is unbelievable, the way it just progresses from innocence to undoing. I love it.
"Now I do as I please.
I lie through my teeth.
Someone might get hurt but it won't be me"
She'll probably feel cheap, but I'll just feel free and a little bit empty"

this song was written when karen o was with that guy from the liars and they were both on tour. "maps" is used because they are in such different parts of the country...and "they don't love you like i love you" is what she is saying to him maybe about his band? |

All this talk about how this song is homoerotic, homosexual, etc. must look at the big picture. This song isn't about just ANYONE named Michael, it's about Michael Flatley, the Lord of the Dance, who hails from Glasgow, Scotland. The wrote the song as kind of a tribute since Flatley's act finally left Las Vegas. |

| Interpol – Stella Was a Diver and She Was Always Down Lyrics

i think incu is right, but maybe not a full blown hooker, just a girl with low-self confidence/self-esteem who lives in Paul's neighborhood. Everytime a man wanted some action they would find "Stella" who would use these intamate sessions to make herself feel loved. |

i think this song is about the "dirtiness" of old New York City and Time's Square being infested with sex shops and prostitution. By saying Turn on the Bright Lights, they are referencing Time's Square now. |

| Interpol – Leif Erikson Lyrics

I think this song is about a man and his wife/girlfriend swinging, or expanding their sex life. The most obvious clue is Paul's
"I’ve been swinging all the time, think it’s time to learn your way.
I picture you and me together in the jungle it would be ok."
is an obvious one, but also things like "she says it helps with the lights off" |

rivers hates the pinkerton album because everyone claims that is started "emo," it didn't sell well and gained a cult following among emo kids much later. rivers doesn't talk about the album when asked and only plays the songs because he likes them individually. i think it's perfectly ok for him to do this...i mean think about it: the guy pours out his heart into this album and no one buys it, and all of weezer's so called "fans" blast the album for not being "happy" enough. this is there best album, maladroit was terrible, green was average, blue was good, but pinkerton is the best. |

i'm thinking he's referring to jonie mitchell. she became famous and the FBI did keep info on jonie. some think that she and some of the other early folk singers started the revolution that is what some today call "emo" Wow, my Poetry of Rock class just came in handy. |

"Omaha's a survivor...i think you're exaggerating, you're exagerating quite a bit. Omaha's a small town, it's been a small town for awhile, it hink it's time it grew up, and got some chain stores, like a starbuck's"
"They're putting one in the old market."
then they say something about how a couple of stores, i can't make out the name but one sounds like Shocks or something. Then the one guys says.
"no more shocks."
"But who really went there anyway?"
"I did"
"I didn't even know they closed...it was too long of a drive for me."
that's as close as i can get, since i don't have the album here, it's in my car. Who are these two guys talking anyway? |
