There was glass inside my feet and raining down from the ceiling, it opened up the scars that had just finished healing. It tore apart the canyon running down your femur, (I thought that it was beautiful, it made me a believer.) i don't understand this section at all. someone please help? RLHJones is right, technically, but i have to say that the symptoms presented could arguably point towards all three disorders. i favor bi-polar, as it seems to fit most of the lines in the second to last stanza better than the other two. i'll expound if you ask me to. aside from that, i think the subject is suffering from more than just mental instability, since she (forgive me for feminizing muses) seems to be dying and last time i checked none of the above were fatal. perhaps we are to believe that she's grown so nihilistic that she is suicidal, and hurts herself in an effort to prevent herself from hurting the narrator. otherwise i think we are meant to find some other infirmity. now that i've "thought out loud" a bit, i wonder if the mention of the femur i quoted above is a reference to leukemia? |

ignoring jared's girlfriend, since i like to differentiate between the muse and the subject, this song is about letting a girl fuck you even though you know you shouldn't, for whatever reason. to respond to everyone's comments on the age of consent, you're missing the point: he's saying she's too young for him. plus, age of consent means she's old enough to tell her parents to fuck off and marry you, not that you're protected when daddy finds out, threatens to take away her cell phone and suddenly she's telling the judge she didn't understand what she was doing and wishes she hadn't. i quote: "so far so good, she's absolutely wasted. she's hanging up and changing her story around." first line: if she's drunk, she can't consent. second line: daddy said i'm not allowed to talk to you cause the lawyer told him it would hurt the case. foo fighter: most of their songs make you think of hookers because their art focuses on the bargains we make for sex. marriage, for example, was originally a tool father's used to advance themselves in status or finance. though sometimes, like this time, it's about some girl fucking the cute singer who's poster is hanging by her bed so she can say she lost her virginity to a rockstar when she was only 17. or a rockstar who is running cool doing something he shouldn't because he shouldn't and there is nothing else to do. now that i've thought about all this i've come to realize what he truly means by gold digging mothers. kanye's usage never fit in my mind, since she doesn't seem to be asking for anything other than a night's lust. i've decided he's actually talking to her mother, saying, don't sue me just because you can, i don't deserve it as much as i think you do. |

i agree, ion displacement. also, i think the second chorus is slightly different, i believe they beat rather than sleep. i think the song references the sort of displacement one feels when moving back and forth between home and school, or any other similar "displacement". see seagull vs. beetle in second verse, he is essentially telling us he feels more alive on the coast. bryn, either because she reminds him of the coast, or because she is the thing about the coast he loves, brings out the same feelings in him, and he loves her for it. |

it is some kind of gun. a grenade launcher. the khyber pass links pakistan and afghanistan. these two facts make you not an idiot jackie. you're still a hobo though. as far as jackson crowter goes, he's either a no name friend of theirs and we just get to be confused why they are name dropping obscure friends, or its a viral mispelling of jackson crowther, who seems to be a minor league baseball player. this could actually work, if we assume the object of the song is overseas with an m79. our singer thinks of him/her when they notice the symbolism of the m79 bus. as a sort of prayer, asks his friend to let go of the "kill the arabs cause they're all terrorists" mentality and instead show them some of the good things about america, such as minor league baseball players. since most of the places referenced in this album, that i've noticed at least, are for cape cod environs i'd assume the new york reference is also partly a method of refreshing 9/11 in our minds to put us in the right frame of reference. |

| the whole beauty of poetry is that it has more than one meaning. i can't believe you're all so focused on lover's spit being semen that you can't take it for it's common, colloquial meaning, a fight between two lovers. part of being in love is taking the bad with the good, and this song is about when there seems to be too much of the bad to make the good worthwhile. and about giving head, which we can remember refers to both fellatio and cunnilingus. if your girl doesn't give you some "lover's spit" when you go down on her, you're not doing it right. | |

to keep going on the mythological symbolism, from wiki: "Heimdall is the guardian of the gods who will blow the Gjallarhorn if danger approaches Asgard. He is moreover the guardian of the Bifrost Bridge." the bifrost bridge being the one between asgard (land of the gods) and midgard (land of the mortals). there is an easy connection between enhanced senses and using drugs as a source of inspiration, but i think this idea teams up nicely with lepidoptera3's thoughts on the prometheus reference. he is cursed because drugs had been an integral part of his artistic process, his way of carrying fire down from olympus. at the same time they are what halts it as well, distancing him from other sources of inspiration, such as his love for nina twin. then there is also the expense, both in terms of money and the effect on his brain and body. just wanted to toss that in for people to think about. |
