i find it humorous when people automatically say that a song is about drugs and heroin. what a piece of shit way of interpreting every single song ever written. just because layne staley was intoxicated like 24/7 doesnt mean that it completely controlled what he wrote his music about. try actually reading the lyrics before saying "yep, AIC wote it, it must be about a syringe and a vein". in doing so, you will clearly see that someone is driving somone else insane, causing that person to become suicidal. no, its not a drug because drugs are not capable of scraping someone's brains off the wall. |

yeah, falcon hit the nail on the head. im positive that the song is not about a man who falls in love with a lady and kills her (as one or more people declared) simply because of the tone of the song. it is not nearly dark and gloomy enough for that, and yes, this is a legitimate way to judge a song even though it sounds childish. if james hetfield wrote a song about such an act, the lyrics would run parallel with a depressing guitar melody. if you want an interpretation of the song, just read what falcon wrote, i dont feel like restating the whole thing, however i will add that murder is not an issue in the song, just simply a person dying. |

Or could staring down the barrel refer to pointing the gun at someone else? i think staring down refers to looking down the barrel toward the sites, which would be referring to murder. perhaps i am completely wrong though |

I agree with evillawyer. The sound on the cd is not as clean and little squeeks and tiny fuck ups here and there are left as is. The new drum sound is pretty damn cool, that is after it grows on you a little, but the album definitely lacks a certain amount of depth, which could easily be fulfilled with a guitar solo here and there; i dont think kirk shines through once during the whole album. Additionally, it is kind of strange, but well appreciated, that metallica included the dvd of rehearsals with the cd, when these "rehearsals" were actually done after the cd was recorded, which lacked trujillo. Back to the song-
Something interesting is the line "stop to warm at Karmas burning". The karma, or fate itself, burning, represents a decadent future. So, insted of seeing the song as simply a person wondering about how he has lived in the past, see it as a a person who is pessimistic about the future as well. This state of being trapped between misfortune may allow us arrive at the conclusion that this song could be related to suicide. But, what do i know, im just a white guy who likes metallica. |

Yes, i agree. Metallica easily outdid my expectations on this one. Easily heavier than anything from the 90's. This song is great. It took time for it to grow on me, but now it is great every time i hear it. First, you have to make the obvious connection that St, Anger is a means of suicide, being a rope "round my neck". The rest of the song focuses on being stuck in the middle of feeling incredibly pissed off with someone/thing and just ending all the bullshit, all together, with this "medallion noose". "fuck it all and no regrets" revolves around my conclusion and shows that this person, regardless of how he got into this state of thought, is satisfied with his past decisions, and now must think about whats ahead. Why in the name of jesus would the band settle with the line "im madly in anger with you". maybe its just me, a diehard metallica fan, or does anyone else agreee with me that this line is just awkward and unusual? oh well. Excellent song either way |

I agree, sysys, this is definitely one that will take time before people, many people might i add, to take a strong liking to it. Many people might agree with me or might call me a retard, but this song describes perfectly that feeling we get, at least i get, when something goes wrong with that girl you like, and when you proceed to go home, sit in your room, just thinking, in a state of denial/regret/animosity/sorrow/whatever other horrible feeling goes through your head. And finally, as with anything dreadful in life, it sticks with you for a few days, this unnamed feeling. Everyone has one, this is just an example of mine. |

| Metallica – Shoot Me Again Lyrics

Basically put, this is from the point of view of either James himself or the entire band. Metallica, having not released an original cd in like 6 years, has put up with a lot of lip from everyone, even their own fans. I was turned into a skeptic myself. In retaliation, the song states that they are not backing off yet and that they are making a good effort, once again, to get back on top "i wont go away, right here i'll stay". Being "shot again" is metallica saying "bring that shit on", and "i bite my tongue, trying not to shoot back" is the final plea for everyone to shut the fuck up, for metallica will try to avoid sinking to the lowest depths of the angry critict. The last verse "wake the sleeping giant..." goes hand in hand with "I bit my tongue...", basically stating that they will let their hate and desire to fire back fade, or "sleep". |

Needless to say, this song is about arriving at a state of depression and comparing it to the better days- Yesterday. Any asshole who thinks differents can eat it. This is a very short song. However, there is something about it that just makes it addictive. If anyone can figure out that one thing that makes me want to hear this song over and over again, let me know. |

this song is about the willow tree that once frew behind slim's house, back home in maryland. as a young child, he would swing from the branches of this large tree as a way to get away from his parents who would touch him. as time went on, the tree got cut down, and so did slim's pride, which made him start writing music like this. some say it is also about his regular heroine use, along with how he used to molest small children during times of depression in his life. |

This song is about a person who it feeling pretty bad about a relationship that has just ended, but, at the same time, he is realizing that he is been through it all before and that it is better to "forget and move on", as opposed to dwell on the hardship, therefore he is not afraid. |

This song is about nothing more than Armageddon. Many people appear to be looking way too far into a "hidden meaning" to this song. Most Tool songs have several meanings (46 & 2, schism, stinkfist, etc.), but, not to burst anyone's bubble, this song is simply not as deep. The only form of a double-meaning existing through the lyrics of this song is the fact that mjk talks about an Armegeddon via the San Andreas fault giving way (creating an Arizona Bay) as well as a comet falling from the sky (creating massive tidal waves--"learn to swim"). Aside from these two points of view, the intentions of this song are pretty much on the surface. |

Very good song from a band with ample potential. I seem to dislike all of the new bands i hear on the radio because they all sound alike, and they all sound very untalented. Earshot sounded completely different and seemed to be on a higher level. Their songs, like this one, are much deeper than the songs of other new bands. THIS BAND HAS POTENTIAL. |
