I imagine it's about a little girl (like 5 or 6 years old), so it's hard to see her cutting herself...that's more of an adolescent thing, or older child. Here's what I have always thought: "When the blood won't come When it ought to come" The blood, I think, refers to her father, since they are connected by their blood. So, the blood, her father, doesn't come when it ought to come (or ...her father isn't there for her like he should be). Although I see where the image comes from, I really don't think the pregnancy idea fits into the context of this song. I must admit, I am quite suprised that people think the dad is dead...guess their daddies didn't leave them maybe... so it doesn't seem so obvious. |
