This song is absolutly amazing. One of my favorites. Its the most beautiful vocal collaboration and the lyrics are amazing. I think it could all be based on the idea of driving aimlessly in a car... not knowing your destination and having full trust in the person behind the wheel...letting them have control... ...Its one of those cool summer nights... and you're driving... escaping the world with someone that feels you... Could be love. At the same time... the song seems very very sexual. It seems there are a lot of sexual references whether its physical sex or mental sex. Either way theres something going on in the curious night air... and they dont care who sees what... Maynard and Chino... it doesnt get more auralgasmic then this... |

| I saw them the other day with Incubus, and have been listening to them for a few months since i read a review in Alternative Press. I've always loved his acting since My So Called Life and Requiem For A Dream... and when i heard his band and his voice and his lyrics i was amazed. I didnt think someone could be so good at both creating art and acting. He's definitely one of those people... not to mention the most gorgeous creature to walk the earth... | |

I remember once, a real long time ago, it was that time in the afternoon when everythings quiet and the suns starting to go down... and the air in a dark room is kind of tinted blue... and i was lying on the floor with this song on repeat for hours... and i just fell into the deepest meditation... and when i opened my eyes it was hours later and the song was still playing and i just felt completely... numb. I never really came to find a meaning in the song... it was just the music and the way Gavin used his voice and the way he wrote... Its one of the greatest songs... and now that i think about it... it is like one of those moments in a dark room with someone that your in love with.... Bush STILL rocks... although nothing will ever be like the Sixteen Stone/Razorbladed Suitcase days... |

Honestly, i always thought this song was about drug addiction. I was always sketchy cause it didnt seem like Gavin would be the type to be addicted to anything. Anyway, to me it sounds like the "you"s and "she"s are actually refering to the drug. "sleep the day let it fade" (sleeping to escape withdrawl) "Who was there to take your place" (need of some drug) Just an example. So maybe im completely wrong but this idea works for me and im sticking to it. BUSH ROCKS. |

THEORY 1: MAYBE its about his life as a "rockstar". How he views it, how it happened, why he did it. And about how people think he has "everything"... but not the one thing he truely wants. I woke up today to find myself in the other place with a trail of my footprints from where I ran away -{he suddenly woke up and realized what his life. And all the things he ran away from through it) "it seems everything I've heard just might be true and you know me well you think you do" - (i think hes referring to the fans that go on about how they know exactly how he feels ect. And they know everything about him cause they've read books and magizines) sometimes, I have everything- yet I wish I felt something -(he has money and stardom and all most people could want... yet its not what brings him happiness and satisfaction) and in a dream I'm a different me with a perfect you -(dreaming of a different life) we fit perfectly and for once in my life I feel complete- and I still want to ruin it -(he knows what he wants but he cant bring himself to do it) afraid to look as clear as day this plan has long been underway |

Hurt is my all time favorite song. I can relate to the lyrics so perfectly, thought perhaps i see it differently then Trent did. I think its really self explainitory. Its about hurting and seeing yourself and life as nothing. Its the lowest point. Pain, depression, self loathing. It's set in stages of a certain "moment". Its almost like an epiphany to those who have felt this way. "I hurt myself today to see if i still feel" - (feelings of numbness and emptiness) "I focus on the pain the only thing thats real" - (finally *something* to feel) "The needle tears a hole that old familiar sting tried to kill it all away but i remember everything" - (Trent doesnt do heroin, any true fan knows that. He's exaggerating it, using the idea of heroin to signify desperation) |

Ive heard the theory that it wsas about an artist friend drinking. But i personally dont believe it. I dont think Maynard is the type to fully tell what a meaning is. He seems the type that would hide it... let you decide what it means. the line "why cant we not be sober?" doesnt mean that they cant be sober, its the fact that they ARE sober, and cant NOT be, but they wish they could. I personally think the song is about some sort of relationship whether its friendship, love, or family. It seems like its his regrets that seem to be haunting and plaguing him. And he just wants to change it so it all stops. |
