I guess the whole surreal description of the monsoon is what he sees in her soul...maybe the emotions he sees in her soul that are so overwhelming like a monsoon sweeping an area
And the part about the boy being struck by lightning is her being in love or sth
Oddly enough, the description of how the storm is coming is a bit geeky-poetic (as the time between the sighting of the thunder and the sound it makes is bigger when the thunder falls far away) :) |

Well, some of the lyrics are nice (eg "I'm going nowhere where I am there is a lot of fun, they're in the desesert to dismantle an atomic bomb") but I detest the way Bono sings in the whole song! I prefer Xanax and whine which was one of the first versions of this song, before they decide the final form of it |

I must admit it is better (and faster) to listen to music while walking.
Although Love and Peace or Else can make it a bit hard to walk, I get carried by the rythm. Original of the Species is a good song for this purpose, though :) |

yeap, you're right Lyra, it WOULD be creepy (altough I'm not perfectly sure you don't remember it ;) ) This song was written for the Edge's daughter (dunno if it was for the youngest or the eldest),but I love it.
I think the first part (baby slow down...heart) is about how the parents/relatives/godfathers etc feel when they realise that a kid has grown up. They think that time has gone too fast, that the kid has grown up too quickly (like as if they are running to somewhere, that's why he says baby slow down)
I also have the feeling that the girl is in her teens, which means she is about to become a woman
then, Bono wishes to whoever he wrote it for to remain a child deep inside no matter what happens
In the part "Some things you shouldn’t get too good at
Like smiling, crying and celebrity" ,which is my favourite, he advises her not to smile,cry or show off too much (practice makes perfect-not getting too good at sth means not practicing too much)
And as for the chorus part:
Maybe the line "you are the first one of your kind" means "you are a new generation"
and the part " everywhere you go you shout it you don't have to be shy about it" means that she is so beautiful that everyone looks at her and pay attention to her (shouting-> attention)

well, being written about the shootings of some students in a school makes sense. When I listen to it, it reminds me of death or sth. I think the first part refers to the boy/man who did the killings and the second refers to the victims that are going to be remembered forever by their friend and relatives. Generally speaking I love this song because it is not the typical lovesong the Calling sing (they seem to have grown more mature in their recent album), it speaks about a fact that is a shame to happen, but it happens nonetheless and quite frequently. Apart from the meaning/lyrics part, it has also a great tune and Alex's voice rocks! |

well, this song rocks! (literally). Of course it is not the usuall u2 song and it lacks the depth of lyrics (i think all u2 fans were expecting sth more poetic that could rival Joshua tree or Achtung baby). However weird as it might sound, it has a nice tune that is enough to get you on your feet jumping around "singing swinging to the music". A really nice song to cheer you up! |

Well, I can't say I have any racial background and I'm not really proud of my knowledge of world history, but I certainly know that Ireland is a country literally tortured by England. I guess this song is about the current situation between the British and the Irish which (as far as I have understood) is like a war, so, I think Morissey expresses his hope that this war ends. And according to him it will end only when the British stop being racist and racial and all the other things he accuses them of being and stop taking pride on victories that they should be ashamed of. He makes clear that Irish refuse to be subject to the British and they are not afraid to die for liberty and their beliefs. I really love this song because, as my nation was conquered for about 400 years, it touches my heart and it makes me think not only for the Irish but all the other nations fighting for their freedom, like the Palestinians and the Vasks. Especially the phrase "And I will die with both of my hands untied" which reminds me of a phrase of a participant in the revolution that said sth like : One hour of freedom is better than fourty years of slavery and prison. I do hope that the Irish will be able to gain their freedom. |
