well, deify means to honor or glorify someone who's against something, such as the church or some sort of authorty like that (im REALLY not positive if it means exactly that, so don't jump down my throat telling me I'm wrong...). so deifying (sp?) the wretched ones is kind of repeating the word (deify = honor wretched people...so why does it repeat wretched ones??)
I can relate to this song in terms on September 11. Having it hit home so much and so close this song kind of took a whole new meaning after 9/11 (sounds corny, doesn't it?)...think about it. Through the darkness comes the light..eventually the bad will pass.."through the light unending pain"..after the tragedy or whatever, there's the time period of pain, grieving...
And the last line...well I don't know how to fit that in. |

Yeah...it IS "tefachaid" meaning "be afraid" in hebrew (ive gone to a jewish school my entire life and am fluent in hebrew)...i dont know where they got the "if all fails" from. I get chills when I hear Dreiman sing "tefachaid" live..how he pronounces the "ch" (silent h..) part of the song..i guess that's living proof he's jewish and went to yeshiva, eh? |

This is my favorite Bright Eyes song as well...the raw emotion Connor pours into this song is incredible. It really blows me away. Anyway, I think this song is about how people are NOT immortal...human beings...everything must come to an end. We're just mortal beings that are created from dust and end as dust. |
