| The Promise Ring – Gouge Away (Pixies cover) Lyrics | 23 years ago |

True, this is a Pixies song originally, but I think it should be listed here, as TPR does cover it, and there are people that will hear this song, but not know that it was originally a Pixies song. If they come here to look at the lyrics, they will know it is just a cover. Posting lyrics to songs that a band covers is fine, as long as it is noted somewhere that it is a cover song. |

| At the Drive-In – Picket Fence Cartel Lyrics | 23 years ago |

I like this song partly because, like most ATDI songs, the lyrics have such a rhtyhm to them that they are less words that stick out of the music than a part of the music itself. I also like this song because of the subject it deals with, child abuse. It refers to a father using his belt to discipline his children (an awful act to begin with), and an event that happened in front of classmates in elementary school. Unlike other current bands that discuss their miserable childhood in their music, ATDI doens't go the whiny route, asking people to pity their current actions for things that happened to them in the past. However, they do ask a darker question, will I become what I hated? |

I'm pretty sure this song is about a battered wife, but she doesn't speak up until it's too late. When I first began to understand the lyrics (can take a while with ATDI), I thought the tone was very harsh, directed toward the subjec tof the battery, but now I feel it is more intended to be cynical of the entire battery cycle. I think it is a great song, just beautifully put together, and the final line of the song at least end it on a hopeful note. |

I think it's pretty straight foreward. He has a car. He's going to fuck her in it. |
