Eric Clapton – Layla Lyrics 23 years ago
This song was always in the version heard now. I think it was released originally without the awesome outro.

It's not about him saying goodbye to Pattie Boyd... I don't think Clapton ever has... "Wonderful Tonight" and "Old Love" are about her too, at least.

The entire "Layla" album is about Pattie Boyd. It's also based on Nizami's 12th century epic poem, "Leyli and Majnun". Leyli translated to "Layla" in the english version. Clapton got a copy before this album was recorded. It's an Arabian epic that's comparable to Romeo and Juilet.

Norah Jones – The Nearness of You (Glenn Miller cover) Lyrics 23 years ago
For the record, the song was written by Hoagy Carmichael (who wrote Stardust and that song you always play on the piano, Heart and Soul, among many others). Ned Washington just did the lyrics. Glenn Miller and Sinatra just made it famous.

Covering songs and making them you own is an established tradition in jazz.
