I love the part when Cher sings "I'm gonna be a lady someday." It has this great sort of coming-of-age feel to it, like a kid ran away to become an adult. This song has always sort of depressed me; for some reason, even though she sings "I'll be back someday", I always listened to the song feeling like she didn't actually mean it. Eh. |

Man. This song. I know the lyrics are terribly simplistic and somewhat trite, but they're still amazing. I mean, I still say Sonny Bono was one of the greatest lyricists ever. He had a knack for making incredibly simple sentiments mean so much. |

I'm amused that Cher said she doesn't love this song and that she has trouble remembering the lyrics because there's so many words.
Oh Cher. :) This song is great. And inexplicably sexy, for some reason. |

For some reason, I listened to this song for years and years before realizing that the last verse was actually talking about the narrator's daughter. I'm slow. But yeah, it made me love it all the more. |

I prefer the original version of this song, but they're both great. They're both also intensely different and I really appreciate that, considering the Cher of the 1980s is a very different Cher than the Cher of 1966. A few things in the original are different (for example, in the original, Cher is the one who "wore white", and of course the fact that she addresses a "you" in this song, while in the original it's just "he").
Personally, I think this is one of the best songs Sonny Bono wrote. It's got that awesome cowboy theme running through it, which Sonny seemed sort of obsessed with, and I dig it. :) |

I guess I kinda agree with everyone else. When I first heard it, I just interpreted as a song about someone that maybe you're in love with, but you don't know why, because they're not a good person and they're just ugly on the inside and you wish you could expose them for what they really are. And despite all that, you still love them and want to keep a part of them with you by "drinking their blood," and is it me or does this song's message remind anyone else of "Rocks Tonic Juice Magic," or is it just the way I'm interpreting it? |

It's all about stress and all that pressure that you're under sometimes. And I don't know, I interpret this one part of the song, the part "I think that I see this big blade coming to slice open a great canyon through the earth so you can watch me disappear," makes me think of just one of those bad days. If the "big blade" is the moon, then it's just one of those things when something as beautiful as the moon seems like it's out to hurt you too. It's irrational and dumb, but it's true. |

"If this could be real, right now, everyday for the rest of my life, I will search for moments full of you."
It reminds me of this girl that I love more than anything... and maybe it's sort of pathetic. But just thinking about her, just thinking that if maybe she gave me that once chance, that one shot for us to be happy together, I'd spend the rest of my life devoted to her, to everything about her.
"You and me will forge some future because we don't want to be waiting for something right to go wrong."
That's just a beautiful way to say that you can't sit around expecting the perfect relationship to go up in smoke. You need to enjoy it for what it is and stop worrying about when it'll end. |

This song is so excellent. Every time I put in Through Being Cool and hear this song, I just freak out. I agree with Lia completely, and thanks for that because I wasn't sure what the "coal" and "starch" stuff meant. |

The. Best. Song. Ever. Not just the best STD song, but the BEST SONG, ever. The words capture every single insecure feeling I've ever had. And when Chris starts to sing "I think that tonight I will sneak into your house..." there's just so much emotion in his voice, it's amazing. Basically, I think it's about some girl he's in love with and she doesn't love him back, but he just wants any chance to be near her, to be close to her, to be able to prove that maybe he IS the one. Amazing. |
