I'm leaving home for the first time in 22 years to go to grad school 1000 miles away and I'm not coming back except to visit on holidays. This song makes me cry because it fits so perfectly. My mom wants me to go and live my dream but she's really upset and worries about missing me. My dad, on the other hand, thinks it's a bad idea... he's trying to talk me out of it by telling me I'll miss home and have a hard time adjusting when in reality he's just being selfish and doesn't want me to leave. I love them both and it's so hard to leave but this song is so encouraging! |

i think the "elephant" may refer to the idiom "there's an elephant in the living room", which is a way of saying there's something out of ordinary going on but no one will acknowledge it. it often relates to abuse or alcoholism within a family, but i think here it may have to do with the fact that she wants to leave and her parents have known this but they thought she never would. i can completely relate. |

I think this song is about something that he's done wrong and he's know it was wrong but he doesn't have regrets. He enjoyed what he did but still wonders what could've been. |
