Almost everyone who has written about this album so far is ridiculous. Any real music lover knows that bands grow and have to change their sound and style a bit on each record to make things interesting. Change is good, always remember that. I personally love this album, it shows the many dynamics of the band. Chester shows how he can not only scream in every song, but also sing just as well. The album truely shows all aspects of the band from hard to soft, loud to quiet, suttle to straighforward, all of it.
As for this song, I think the lyrics are awesome. Straight forward so there is no deep thinking needed. One of the best on the album. |

this song to me is defenitely a result of a breakup. his whole world has changed bc he has been so used to his life with this person. he steps back from the world "on top of the world", and looks at how this relationship has changed him and made him what he is today. he realizes to make his "new" life complete he needs something but he had to just keep on living to find it out, "knowing nothing is better than knowing it all." now he has something to live for and look forward to. |

I would agree with many people who commented on this song and say its about meaningless sex. When he speaks about "running like a blade, to and through the heart" it means how usually on a one night stand theres one person who is ok with it starting and ending right there, and how there is one person who feels emotionally hurt afterwards. His libido is growing and he is knocking down these dominoes(people), just to pacify his hunger for sex. This is feeding him and filling him up with most likely happiness. For anyone, you know you feel like a million bucks the day after you get laid but sooner or later your hungry for more. This song is a lyrical interpretation of the constant hunger for sex for someone not in a relationship. |

First I would like to say how impressed I am about this website. Music is an art form that can change peoples lives and its great to hear how people feel and interpret the same lyrics that have affected yourself. Ok, so now for my piece of mind about this song.
I have always loved this song but right now I am in a situation that really makes me feel this song. I am, what you would call a Player when it comes to girls. Recently I met this girl that has been changing my ways completely. The only thing is that this girl has a boyfriend.
I've been changing myself and my ways by "throwing her the obvious, just to see if theres more behind the eyes of fallen angel." She is becoming this fallen angel because she was a perfect gf to this kid until she met me and also bc of me her life is becoming very chaotic. But nevertheless, the girl realized what she should be doing which was not being with me. I have become just a "name in her recollection." I was just "expecting a little too much." She didn't see me, didn't see me, didn't see me at all. Now I'm left with apparently nothing, apparently nothing at all.
I just wish I could say "oh well" and mean it the same way that Maynard does. |
