| Jeff Buckley – The Sky Is A Landfill Lyrics | 22 years ago |

I think this song is so much more universal. Buckley's making a strong social commentary on the meaningless of daily life spent as a daily drone. He talks about the environment, the meaningless of the media, politics.....essentially the "machine" he talks about in the last line. You're right about it being about a selfish way of living, but I definitely see it in a more universal context - all humanity is selfish. |

| Jack Johnson – The News Lyrics | 23 years ago |

i heard jack johnson on a radio interview a couple of months back talking about this song and his album, "Brushfire Fairytales". The name is actually part of the theme of the song - little children are read bedtime stories before they go to sleep, and Jack actually used to watch the news before he went to sleep - around the time there were brushfires in the USA somewhere - so he used to have these awful dreams about them. Also, regarding the discussion about Diegetic, I thought it was funny at first that someone would put a word in a song that's really quite centred around film and film studies (i'm a film major myself) but then when I found out Jack was a filmmaker as well as musician, it all made sense....... |
