| i'm sure you all know this, but this song was written about the stonewall riots on june 27, 1969. riots broke out at a gay bar on the lower east side after judy garland committed suicide. i had heard about this song being about that a long time ago, but i never knew it was because of judy garland's death. i found that it was ignited because of her death about two weeks ago when i saw hugh jackman in the boy from oz. hugh jackman plays the late peter allen, who was judy garland's son-in-law, and he said riot was due to judy garland, whom many gays still admire to this day. | |
