I don't necessarily see that she's broken up with the person she speaks of, just away from him. There's distance between them, for whatever reason, but she holds on because they are each other's "destiny". And she can't wait for the day when they can see one another again. |

I don't know what you guys are talking about, but I agree with FeyTH. She loves the person she's singing to, but she keeps on making sarcastic jokes to distance herself. She's scared, afterall. The things she talks about she doesn't care. The money, the big house, all of that. The song is called "Distractions" because she's trying to distract herself from the scary thought of commitment. That's why, every so often, she reassures him saying "I love you, I do. I only make jokes to distract myself from the truth". As a way to explain herself. |

Not sure what the comments above are supposed to be about, but to me this song represents someone who has always been fearful of falling in love, and they finally meet somebody. And at first, she's afraid to give in because of everything in the past ("Ain't it strange when your feeling things you shouldn't feel "), but she can't explain all these feelings and is overcome by them ("Oh, I wish this could be real"). I can sadly relate to this song a LOT! |

I love you Nikka! This song is.. as the title bluntly puts, "Everybody got their 'something'". Everyone is individual, unique, and special. Everyone has something that makes them feel good, that makes them sing, that makes them who they are. "There's a time for every star." She also mentions how, you should do with what you want, and not what you feel. |

To me.. this song symbolizes "going with the flow". The artist has struggled far too often, and realized possibilities only happen when you let things be like they are, "like whatever it will be it will be." Instead of trying so hard for something to work, if something is meant to be .. it will: "I'd rather take it easy, then try to force what's on it's way to me." And yes.. this song has a great beat. I love Nikka Costa. She's so.. not everyone else. |
