hahaha this debate over the words of this song is all very amusing, if you can make a meaning out of all this then good on you, but to me it doesnt make any sence, this is a kick ass song but all you are writing about is what the lyrics mean. obviously this song is ment for german people, which i myself am not. but that doesnt matter. if you like the song then listen to it, but dont question peoples interpretations and so forth, its too much time when all you have to do is enjoy the song! grab what meaning you can and be happy, its the same with everything in this world, theres too much corruption too bother. i got someone in germany to translate me the song and send it to me and he said it was a play on words but definatly about marrage. soo.. in other words who cares. but a kick ass song which you can ponder about for a life time if you wish. |

yer this song is great, its gotta be one of my fav JBT songs. although i think that he does love her and he just wants her to be happy and he doesnt think that hes the right man to do it, he loves her enough to want to leave her if it makes her happier even if it means hurting himself. its gold. and whats the go with no one writing anything for these guys? they are awsome! ps. shit i didnt know they were aussies! thats gold to think at least somone in my contry has done it right thats all |

ok, i got my meaning from the tool web sight. Ya ever wonder why they just DO NOT play that song on tour, like hardly at all, even though it's so popular? Well it's because this song has a special meaning to Maynard. Devo Keenan, his son, has the middle name of H... not anything extra... just H. The song isn't about any person at all, it's about his son... think about the song. Maynard had a bad relationship with his father when he was young, constantly being abused. Even though he loves Devo, sometimes he has a problem, and wants to hurt him. He gets it from his father... and it causes him to want to lash out at his wife and his child. that's why when he says they're "void of hate, but killing him just the same"... he means that Devo loves him, but he's still hurting Maynard because of Maynard's past.... When he talks about "snake behind me hisses, what my damage could have been", he's talkin about how what his father did to him wants to resurge through him and onto Devo. then the next verse "my blood before me begs me, open up my heart again"... he's sayin that the blood before him (his children, future grandchildren, etc.) is begging him to forget the past and start over... Infer the rest of the song for yourself. I think this is the best explanation possible. im not disrespecting anyone elses theorys, and if i said that it was un intentional, im just making the point that this is what it ACTUALLY means. it may mean something different to you, and thats kool. you can express the song the way you want to but just dont say that thats what it meant to manyard |
