This is one hell of a song. I love how it was written. All the punk/hardcore bands of today write songs about depression trying to sound smart and deep. Black Flag did it best. It's not like they kept a thesaurus by them to find some obscure word for being bummed out. It's just straight to the point yelling what's wrong with their life. |

I've always taken this amongst the lines of being against phony revolutionary type kids. The shit they're doing described in this song, is just destructive crap. Nothing is accomplished from it. Kids think they're tough shit because they "cuss, spit, throw bottles, write graffiti, or break glass", but just like it's said, "that ain't nothing at all". |

Jesus Christ! Just because a dude doesn't play in a hc band anymore doesn't mean he doesn't still listen to/love the music, or have the same friends he's always had. Fuckin scene queens, it's easy to judge what's best for your favorite bands when you're not even in them.
Have you seen his new band's line-up? H2O, Cro-Mags, Bad Brains.. yea, I'm sure they all dwell on the fact that Chad plays in a pop-punk band too. Grow up already.

It's not about Matt's mom dying. The intro guitar riff was written after it happened, but as the lyrics show, they didn't take it in that direction.
Like said, it's pretty much a song about lonliness, pain, the one that never was. This has probably been my favorite song for the last few years, It hits so close and hard with me.
I got to see Hulud in December. Pretty much this whole song, it was me and Geert screaming the words at each other. For the line or two he was on the other side, me and Matt had this eye contact while yelling the words. It was one of those awesome spine-tingling moments. Great show, great band, great song. |
