The Pains of Being Pure at Heart – This Love Is Fucking Right! Lyrics 16 years ago
I took "sister" to be literal too. I think its the line "No you can't go home after where you slept last night" that makes me think that. Like they have disgraced, or have been disowned by, their family.

Frightened Rabbit – Good Arms vs. Bad Arms Lyrics 17 years ago
There is a "with" in the live version.

I think the subject of this song did the breaking up, and is still stubbornly blaming his partner for the failure in the relationship, even though he has grown to realize that is not the case: "I decided this decision some six months ago, so I'll stick to my guns, but from now on its war."

It hurts him to see her moving on, while he is stuck in the past. Not only does he finally have to come to terms with losing her, but he is forced to realize that the failure of the relationship is also at least partially his fault, and his unwillingness to admit that to himself is what finally cost him his last chance to be with the woman he realizes (too late) that he loves: "I'm not ready to see you this happy." "I might not want you back, but I want to kill him." "I'm still in love with you (can't admit it yet)"

Frightened Rabbit – Poke Lyrics 17 years ago
Fantastic song. I think it stretches over two times; the first verse is the break up, the second verse is looking back after some time has past.

I saw these guys play a few months ago, it was an amazing show. They closed with this one.

System of a Down – The Metro (Berlin cover) Lyrics 23 years ago
well, its a cover of a berlin song, and in that version, its starts out saying empty glass, and changes to broken glass. that makes me think its not suicide, but that maybe they have been drinking. The lyrics bring up visions of WW II in europe for me. I think maybe its about a girl who has is remembering seeing her love leave to go to war.

A Perfect Circle – 3 Libras Lyrics 23 years ago
i had heard this song before, but after this happend, i paid more attention to it.

I was really good friends with this girl. I liked her, and she liked me, but she was in a relationship, so we were going to remain as friends. but the relationship ended. I thought that we would get together, but she was going through a very stressful time (picking college, new job, ect...). so she wanted to wait a while. once again we decided to remain friends. we agreed that we she was ready, then we would go out.
Time passed, and i had to go away for about 10 days. when i came home, i learned that she was dating another good friend of hers, one that before she had said she had no attraction too. I wasn't jelous, just dissapointed and passed over, as the song says. we are still very good friends, and she is still with the other guy. I have since left for college, and may have missed my chance with her. I wish them both well.

thats what the song means to me. missing out on somebody you really love, but at the same time not harboring any ill feelings for anyone involved. it just kinda hurts.

System of a Down – Marmalade Lyrics 23 years ago
poison might be disease. that would make sense. then maybe marmalade flesh might also be about disease. But i think marmalade flesh is just a play on words about him being "spread" eagle.

It might be a referance to sex as a sin. he makes one at the begining of the song. It might just be that if he dies now, he cant repent for "sinning" and will cary that sin with him. Ever read Hamlet? it makes me think of that whole concept.

Hole – You've Got No Right Lyrics 23 years ago
kurt did not write this song for her. as meganB said, this song is the last studio recording done by nirvana, only three months before kurt's "suicide." This, along with "old age" was coverd by hole, but written by kurt. Courtney did change some of the lyrics in her version, however. the nirvana version is called you've got no right, and seems to be more about not wanting courney love. its says, in fact, among other things "i don't want to love again." and "i don't think i want Love"

We all hope to hear the nirvana version, the real version, soon. it is susposed to be on a greatest hits coming out later this year. but it was also suposed to be on the box set which was "coming out last year."

Courtney will get hers in the end.

Hole – Old Age Lyrics 23 years ago
smells like girl, the reason you like this song is because its a cover of a nirvana song. Not everyone knows that, though, because courtney won't let the box set come out. she just covers the good ones for herself. (you've got no right, for example)

"i don't think i want love"-K.C. "you've got no right"

Nirvana – You Know You're Right Lyrics 23 years ago
this song is suposed to be on the greatest hits, which is suposed to be coming out at the end of the year. (ill believe it when i see it)

This is the biggie in the center of that huge debate. does anyone else see the irony in that. the song at the center of the "who owns nirvana?" fight is a song called "you've got no right"
(actually, its only you've got no right when nirvana did it. courtney performed it as you know your right. also ironic.)
I have heard tell that this song is actually about Kurt wanting to leave courtney. The real lyrics do talk about wanting to leave an anonymous relationship. but look at the last line on the second verse or whatever. "I don't really want Love." Love might have a double meaning in this song.
Courtney will get hers in the end.

The Vines – Autumn Shade Lyrics 23 years ago
maybe this song is about how craig feels about people who may have told him to give up music in his past. called him lazy, or good-for-nothing. "who am i to be this way. dreaming so insane." might be a referance to other peoples oppinion of the "impossible" goal of making in the music world.

The Vines – Factory Lyrics 23 years ago
This song is great. its a little more out there, kind of a stretch. i think it might be an indication of the vines range of abilitys. I guess the meaning is just a song about soul-sucking drone work. I think its interesting that the music would have such an island-y vibe. almost like a vaction. the irony between upbeat, fun music, and such down-trodden lyrics is amazing.

The Vines – 1969 Lyrics 23 years ago
The next nirvana? maybe not. but a great band, none-the-less, and probably the best candidate to carry on in nirvanas spirit. Highly evolved is an amazing album. everyone who owns it knows that. If you know sombody who doesn't own it, tell them to buy it.

As for the song, i don't really know. I have got one idea that nobody has posted. The opening lines make me think craig (singer) is refering to feeling disconnected with todays culture. "its 1969 in my head." and "living through the sounds of the dead." see like me to be referances to an interest in pop culture, especially music, from past decades. Lots of the other lines could be referances to feeling like a person on the outside of society, looking in. If this is right, i don't know. Just a thought.

Also, does anybody know if there are downloadable versions of some other vines songs. Hot leather, down at the club, ect.... In fact, a list of unknown vines songs would be helpful.
