| Tracy Chapman – Behind The Wall Lyrics

this was the first song - that i remember - that had a strong enough emotional impact to make me actually cry. the lyrics are good, and the effect of tracy using only her vocals - which are absolutely amazing - gives me the shivers. this goes down in the books with strange fruit, by billie. absolutely amazing.
domestic violence is such a startling issue on it's own, and tracy does a really good job of opening up people's eyes to it and the surrounding issues.
magic. i can't say it enough. |

agreed that it's about a girl growing up, but when you think about it, the dusty dolls could symbolize a lot of things. immaturity, innocence, virginity, naiveté - all those precious things that little girls lose when they grow up. one of my favorite songs by paz.

"In short, this song details a failed relationship, a relationship with someone who isn't ready for it, wants something else, something.. less."
I think that's it exactly! |

i agree with that. i had a friendship like this once - and went through the same exact feelings. resignation, that's a good way of putting it. i love the lines "and every time i try to pick it up, like falling sand as fast as i pick it up it runs away through my clutching hands." i know just that feeling. |
