this song IS about a long term relationship... using the horriffic events of the donner party to convey it.... they used the title "donner party" so idiot 15 year olds would know exactly what tragedy the lyrics were paralleling.

this song doesn't specifically mention a relationship between a guy and a girl. to me, it symbolizes my 2 childhood best friends: my sister, and our next door neigbor. we grew up together from the time we were born and still live next door to eachother. we shared an amazing childhood. every memory we'll ever have includes one another. over the last few years, all three of us have grown into three very seperate people... we don't appreciate eachother the way we used to when we were kids. seems the only thing we have in common now is the fact that our pasts overlap. the lyrics pretty much represent how i feel about the two of them... we spent so much time in our ravine together... in the woods... exploring. probably about 15 years or so. whether the lyrics are about a physical place, or a mental place... either way both fit into eachother very well. i often revisit our memories... to locations as well as in my mind. and i'm always doing it on my own. it's always crazy to return to these sorts of places without the people who made them special to begin with. |

this song is about a guy walking around the house and everything reminding him about a person, however the person is nowhere to be found. he emphesizes the fact that the house is empty. although it is still furnished and everything, it is empty in the sense that the person is gone. it's obviously a situation where nothing else can be done or said, and both parties can just shrug and say "it was good" even if it is sarcastic. infix got it right. |

Bulkyone, You are right. As much as I resent the general population of fruitbooters, you're one of the only ones besides myself who brought up the skating issue. We all know that she probably doesn't skate... at least well, anyway. Why is this? LMAO she doesn't take it seriously... she just wants the modern image. Like so many people out there... that's what skating's become, you know. Just an image.... I'm just waiting for everyone (when I say everyone, I MEAN the media) to get sick of it, and I'll smile and watch as it burns out and slides back underground where it belongs. Ooh, and it will. Oh My GOD that's so weird. I've been a Cobain enthusiast since I was about 7 years old, and have been listening to Mellon Collie since it came out in '95..... and I never connected the two. Cobain and David Bowie had some sort of connection when he was alive (the man who sold the world) Um actually, on television, Anthony stated that the song was quite literally about how California has an effect on the rest of the world, and how a lot of things are influenced by the culture of California... whether good or BAD.... When he references Kurt, I think that he is emphesising the fact that Kurt is sort of above all of this... especially when he sticks his name in the celestial stanza of the song .... Basically, Kurt is off somewhere, laughing at all of the crappy things that are taking place here on earth..... |
