one of my favorite tori amos songs i think, to me its about two people drifting away, and how one person is trying to get in but the other person shuts them out "and sometimes i think you want me to touch you but how can i when you build the great wall around you" "but you just look away in the distance..." and people think the relationship is working and stuff "funny how the cracks dont seem to show" but really they both know its falling apart.

when someone, specialy a parent, abused you/abuses you...for a while you're too young, and you just take it. after a while, you get older, and this rage comes out. you just want to lash out and punch them back no matter how many bruises it'll get you. i think this song's about that, about the sick hatred that comes when you're just tired of taking the shit.

i think its about a relationship she thought was amazing and would work out etc they traveled spent time together which was special to her but maybe in the end he left her for someone else or he left her or something...shes angry and sad and she still remembers that feeling and how she thought it would work out?

i agree with andshedied and jupitermasochist, i see the cornflake girls as the flakey, fake ones, and the raison girls as the ones who have depth to them, and this song basically being about the different types of women and the competition between them. AriLuvsSondheim has very interesting interpretations of songs, the only line in this song that i can relate to rape is the "this is not really happening, (you bet your life it is)".

this song is so beautiful its one of my favorites...i interpret it as a song from a woman with emotional problems, trying to find herself, etc, and who's just been left in a relationship, and the baker baker is a good guy friend, generally a stronger person, who's kind of always been there for her to look after her ("i know you're late for your next parade, you came to make sure that i'm not running") and take care of her, who she runs to to lean on. a very heartbreaking song.

wow its amazing to see everyone different views on it..especially the AriLuvsSondheim one....i agree with andshedied, when tori says "mirror mirror wheres the crystal palace", i think its again refering to sleeping beauty, how the queen would look in the mirror and expect to see her perfection, in the song tori says where's my perfect crystal palace? i only can see myself, as in she doesnt realy know what kind of life shes leading, skating around the truth who i am, (trying to find myself), but i know dad the ice is getting thin, i think the thin ice means that she knows she'll eventually have to find herself and do something with her life .
