"if all i am is distraction for you then i cant complain that you can't feel something for me". To me, this a perfect example of the singer getting involved with a girl who already has a significant other during a low point in the relationship. first of all: "Can you think back to when things worked When dreams were the days you lived When you never cried alone" -> The singer is asking the girl if she can remember the days when things were perfect(like a dream) with her boyfriend, when they werent fighting and she would never have a reason to cry. "If all i am is distraction for you then i cant complain that you can't feel something for me. Take all you can, find in me" -> The girl, who is sad and fighting with her boyfriend finds relief from her pain in the singer(a "distraction") but in the end her heart still belongs to her boyfriend. The singer realizes how the girl feels ( Just realize that I know how you feel now) and accepts that the girl will never have any real feelings for him. Even though the singer knows this, he wants the girl to like him so bad that he is willing to give her everything he has (his heart, his time, etc). and for an actual example: "Pull your arms up around your knees And I am inside your room Pretend you can't feel at all " -> The girl is in her room crying about her boyfriend and the singer is there with her trying to comfort her. This example demonstrates everything about this song. The girl will never be in her room crying about the singer, but the singer will always be there for her when she needs a friend (even though the singer wants more, he will always just be a distraction). Im sure alot of people can relate to this, i know i can. |
