Thanks U-Big. Just like i was saying. There was also a comment made by the interviewer in and interview with Trent, that accidently came up with another meaning for the song that i dont think Trent thought about. He mentioned that often many bands who have gone away for a long time come back 'without teeth' "forgive the pun" he said. The reason i say Trent didn't think of this, is because he didn't know this album would do well. But it did, and now With Teeth means even more, as he's back (into the music world), and he's still got teeth. (in the non OB Trice way). |

This album signifies Trents rise out of his drug addiction. He's cleaned himself up, and this is the product of that. He named the album With Teeth for a reason. (the title Bleedthrough works also for the same reason, as in bleeding out the bad and becoming pure- an early medical procedure for clensing evil spirits). Anyway. With Teeth, is most definately about how he met this drug(s), she's addictive, she seems like such a good idea at the time, it gets deeper, you think you've found the right place for you, untill you discover you can't go through this anymore. He can't go through it again. But there was a time it had hold of him. A firm grip, with teeth. And now, with teeth, he's fighting against it. |

gotta say. Weird song actually. At least in its meaning. No doubt it's about his mother. If that's the case it at least cancels out a lot of confusion. 1) the fact that the story of Judith has fucking nothing to do with this song. Judith was some woman warrior who cut off her husbands (i think) head and took it back to her village. 2) One might think he fucked up the lyrics, and got confused with Judith and JudAS, in which the lyrics make much more sense. But if it is about his mother, i guess that solves that problem. |

Im really not too sure about the whole Bush thing. Although he does seem pissed off about the whole deal. There's a post in the access from last year where Trent says "it's a sad day to be an American". So maybe this song is about Bush. Not his typical style- and kind of a turn off, because now im reminded of Greenday... oh god. Nevertheless, ill let the song mean what it means to me (the beauty of his music), and it's a great song, despite what all you cynics think. Im also not sure which one of this songs i read it, but someone said something about "trent writing a song in a day". - probably fluid. We all have to understand the fact that in order for music to stay alive it must evolve. Oh i can only imagine the horrible things said if Trent continued to write music like The Downward Spiral. "What's this old man doing writing so angry and gritty, he shouldn't be trying to stay 'cool' and do his own thing"... which is exactly what he's doing. He turned forty this month. What can you expect. Pretty Hate Machine- He was 26. Focus'd on relationship depression and all that typically hormonal young adult stuff. Broken- Age 29. Angry rock music. Typical of early 90's. The Downward Spiral- Age 31. Maturing. Angry about the world. Raunchy, dark, heavy music. The Fragile. Age 36. Not quite so angry. Discussing issues more apparent to someone who is more worried about something other than themselves. Mature music. With Teeth- Age 40. The type of music you'd expect to hear from someone who's been doing this for so long. You can definately hear very educated messages in these songs. Showing wisdom and maturity. Anyway, enough about that. My point is, his work is progressing. The kind of music that sucks is the kind that gets old and stale because they never change. (eg. Alexis On Fire... i guaruntee their next album will flop). (eg. Metallica... their last album did flop. actually it's fucking terrible) So would you really wanna hear some middle aged man yelling and crying about his terrible drug-fucked life? Or would you rather hear him say something wise and profound? |

| This is probably the closest thing to an Instrumental on the album. Simple lyrics, which are almost unimportant, but just adds a bit of poetry to the song. On the first listen, i was like omg... is the chord ever gonna change?... i knew it had to cuz i saw the promo video... but the anticipation... he obviously knows what he's doing, cuz im sure that was the point. When it finally changed up it was the best relief ever. Amazing song. Very different, and i bet a non nin fan would not udnerstand why it's good. But it is. Lets all look back at NIN's single releases. 1989- Down In It, from Pretty Hate Machine. -Brutal song. Has a fuckin nursery rhyme in it. But respected as the start to something great. The bigginning to a kick ass 80's to 90's transition album. 1994- March of the Pigs. Heavy Guitar, little melody, and a bizzarre twisted change from heavy to piano. "Doesn't it make you feel better?" -Another fairly simple sounding, instrument/guitar based song. Lead to The Downward Spiral. (Nin's best, maybe tied with The Fragile). 1999- The Day the World Went Away. -The single released before the long awaited double album, which is probably one of the best albums ever made, tied with Pink Floyd's- Dark Side of the Moon. -Song contained a simple powerchord progression, no drums, and limited vocals... ending with the word "Na". -Turned into probably one of NIN's best songs every written. I can only imagine the cursed words towards it... but everyone is sorry now, now that they hear everyhting else he's done. 2005- The Hand That Feeds. -Single for With Teeth. -Critisized by countless fans (just like The Fragile was). Angry fan's claimed it wasn't complex enough. (eg. March of the Pigs), lacked in musicality (eg. The Day the World Went Away), and the lyrics left a bit to be desired (eg. Down In It). Everyone was wrong about those singles. They are merely starting songs to something great. You can't judge untill the full picture is unfolded. Everyone was wrong before- they can be wrong again. And think of the man releasing these songs. I wouldn't be too surprised if Trent released the most "poppy" "Mainstream" or "simple" song on the album for a reason. If for non other than to start shit up like this. So have faith. Trent's singles have always lead to great albums. They have always made it appear that he has "lost his touch". In time, come May 3rd, when With Teeth is released, everyone will think about what i said. Never judge a book by it's cover. In the case of music, never judge an album by its single. |

His situation was probbaly very similar (maybe not that he was obsessivly in love), but he was at one time addicted to heroin. This song isn't about drugs at all, dont get me wrong. But at his lowest point, im sure he met someone, and for her good, told her not to get involved. He didn't want to bring her down with her. He is obviously speaking of what could have been, if he hadn't been so low. If he wasn't "tainted". If his live wasnt so shitty that he couldn't even let someone he loved and loved him into his life. He obviously lost someone very important. He did it for their good, not his. And he wishes things had been better, because so much could have been between them, if only he was able. This song confused the fuck outa me for so long. Im not a big fan of either Ozzy, or The Cure. I got the APC cover off the net (in my mad rush to get every bit of APC i could find, cuz they are amazing!). I figured it was just a really drastically changed cover of Diary of a Madman. As i kept looking it up, i kept seeing weird things about other bands, (the cure, for example), and couldn't put the pieces together, untill today... i heard The Cure's- Lovesong. and i though.. wait a minute... i've heard Maynard sing this. To my amazement, i found out that he took too songs and put them together (as we've all figured out). But holy SHIT, that's gotta take talent. You'll notice, the Diary part has been changed in key to fit Lovesong... but how the shit did he realize they would fit. it's seemless!! Anyway. fucking AMAZING song (too bad it's live.. but at the same time, you can really hear how incrediable they sound live... cd's suck, i wish bands toured more often, live is way better!. (although strange for a song topic), along with all the fags out there who live off other peoples wealth. "suck me dry" basically saying, how everyone is asking for, or taking things from him, so much untill he has nothing left, and wants it to stop. "i hope you choke", basically an angry message to all of those greedy individuals, saying, you've taken so much, i hope it gets back at you. The Ticks a LEaches medaphor has to do with, well, blood sucking creatures, and he's relating them to people of society. But i think you guys were way ahead of me on that one. | |

Schism is, i think, a song basically about the seperation of two people, two types of people, religious, spiritual, or racial. It discussed, "point the finger", as in the fights the world has today in many differences. The world suffers from divisions. "there was a time when the peices fit, but i watched them fall away" He's saying there was once, or perhaps a time when people did not see these differences in eachother, and everyone was as one, or equal. He's explaining how things need to come back together, and loose this seperation. If you look it up, Schism MEANS, by definition, the act of 2 or more bodies (not nessesarily physical "bodies"), joining to become one, to share a mutual agreement. Almost becoming simbionts, but not quite that far, perhaps. Also evidence of this is shown obviously, in the video. The two "creatures" see to be tormented, tormenting eachother and themselves, so in the end they become one (schism) creature. |
