I thought it was "Doug" and Sally. If you listen to the version on, I believe, disc 1 of the Quine Tapes, Lou introduces it as a story about Doug, Sally, Cecil, and their friends.
I believe it's at the beginning of the second time through the lyrics that the music suddenly gets more spare, quick, and punchy. I think that reflects the situation getting a little more crazy, for lack of a better word.

I've cried every time I've heard this song. The sad part is that Molina's saying (I think) that his love is "just a spark," since he's getting no reciprocation. |

Seems pretty ridiculous that there's only one comment on a song as great as this. I saw the Favs last November, knowing nothing about them, but I've become a huge fan since. I hope they played this one while Tim Harrington's tongue was in my ear. |
