i think this song is about schizophrenia or a split personality... the calm part of the song seems to be trying to reason with feelings while the loud part is lashing against ones own demons with anger... thus letting the demon overcome and win the emotions

i think the title track is following a common album theme, about identity crisises... to me it's like someone who is overanalytical of themself... thinking too much about what they are instead of being what they are, and living up to the expectations of others... eventually overcoming and realizing you can be much better than others... "plastic" people who are stuck, as opposed to being made of clay and molding yourself into whatever you want to be...

i think there are 2 versions of the song to express 2 different emotions and takes on someone out of reach..... the stalking thing, i'm not quite sure of... but these 2 songs hit me at a time when i was obsessed with someone and i really connected with practically every line "Hard to say what caught my attention Fixed and crazy--Aphid Attraction " these meant alot because i fell for a friends sister, i dont know how or why... and aphids are insects that reproduce asexually... so i'm pretty sure he is saying that his attraction is without lust

Alot of peoples responses seem to show a feeling of hostility towards others and such, but I think the meaning of the song is more introverted as well. To me, it's about coming to terms with how fucked up people are, namely somebody you looked up at one time or thought alot about until you got to know them and they weren't who you thought they were. It also seems to be about coming to terms hypocrisy seeing that you are just as imperfect as everyone else despite efforts to overcome it but still realizing that you're just as fucked up as everyone else is. As far as all the 'god' references.... I'm pretty sure hes screaming "God" more of in an exclaimed desperate cry than in a literal sense of god.

Deftones – Lotion Lyrics

I think this may have alot to do with certain bands that are toned aggressively 100% of the time, while bands like the deftones can go from hard rocking to mellow and sensual. I'm sure they have been dissed a time or two by one of these bands and this is a big 'fuck you' to anyone who has a problem with their style. The song has a very aggressive style that mellows out during the chorus where Chino preaches "but it's classical, anyways" which makes even more sense to me.

I don't think it is much about physical abuse in a relationship, but more likely just emotional anguish and the need to cause it. I might sound like an asshole, but I can relate on a personal level, and I know it is one of my biggest flaws, but there is something gratifying about knowing someone cares about you so much that you can make them cry. It's a feeling very terrible yet very sensual at the same time. I've fallen for many girls just watching them cry. To me it's about being in a relationship with someone you really care about. He loves her yet causes so many fights and arguments and bullshit just to see if she loves him enough to cry. She cries, and the mascara runs, and there you have it.

whatever the meaning, I'd just like to add it's a great sex song, probably the greatest fuck song ever. The s&m thing makes alot of sense with the feel of the song, it gets very sensual and then very rough.

It's interesting to see the song addressed by the band itself, that's the initial idea I got from the song as well. The first time I heard it, the thought of arrogance or selfishness didn't even cross my mind. When you go through some bad times, you can get to points where you feel so victimized, so hurt, even wanting to die. There are some people who just take that route, or they whine their entire lives about how screwed over they get. You can do that, but it would seem healthier if you put yourself ahead of others sometimes, say fuck it, fuck everyone, it's all about me right now. Sometimes you do just have to be an asshole, but I wouldn't see it as selfishness or arrogance at all. That's just life and one way to deal with bullshit. This song is my bad-day anthem.

Since SOAD is somewhat political and not (they've said several times they hate to be considered a full-on rage against the machine type political band) I think maybe this song could have something to do with the whole sheep in the slaughter metaphor. Some look back and think, even after all the knowledge they have, if they could be happier as a sheep in the slaughter, unknowing and unwitting, but happy. Not thinking about the bullshit of the world that you probably should be thinking about. "education, fornication, in you are, go" while education being obvious, fornication could be synonymous with how certain religious fanatics condemn most aspects of sex, that is until they've experienced it(or get married and have it but whatever) and now you know, and now you're 'in' Education and subjugation refer to how when you realize some of the things of the world(capitalism, oppression, ect.) you'd probably be happier just not knowing, so now you're 'out'. As far as the house, wife, shimmy till break of dawn, these are the temptations and the "american dream" that we think of when we don't have other worries of the world on our mind. "Dont be late for school again" sounds more of a wake up call to not be so indulged with this dream, if it must be had at all.(this is where i got the idea of what the song might mean, as i had alot of late-days to school cuz i was sleeping) As humans, we would just instinctively fuck, breed, and just have our children subjugated to the same ideas.

Metallica – I Disappear Lyrics

I'm almost certain myself that this song has something to do with Metallica's personal problems after Load was released, like being a heavy metal band who became more mainstream and MTV friendly. (just as soon as i belong, then it's time i disappear) If you look at the lyrics it could make perfect sense. After the black album, Metalla had been gone from the spotlight for 5 years, just after their biggest hit, Enter Sandman was out. (again, just as soon as i belong, then it's time i disappear) Since then fans had been anticipating a new release, and some gave up(do you bury me when i'm gone?), but when Load came out, they recieved alot of criticism for becoming a more 'alternative' band. This was due to changing their image, cutting the hair, having a few 'alternative' hits and playing at Lollapalooza. I'm sure the band felt critics and fans were overstepping their boundaries trying to tell them what kind of band they were(do you teach me while i'm here?) After that said and done, some of the lyrics should be more self-explanatory. "here i go into new days" "and i went on down that road" "aint no mercy left for me"
