this is how I interpret this song: there is this girl, who is a good looking and cool girl who refused to "put out" like so many girls around her did in high school and college and such. because she wanted someone to actually LIKE her and not just use her, she never hooked up with the hot guys because they went for the sluts. but now, it is much later. she is at a more mature age, 28, 30 something like that. her peers have settled down and aren't running wild hooking up every weekend. she is dating this guy, who is a great guy and who is really really good looking, and who got tons of ass back in the day. but now, he really loves her and is committed to her. she is saying that she doesnt care about his past because she they love each other now and that's all that matters, and she deserves to have such a good looking guy, because she didn't take the easy way out when it comes to getting laid, she did things the way she wanted to, but now, it is paying off, because no one pays those girls who slept around any attention anymore. |

this song is a perfect example of what tori amos can do that ive never heard anyone else do. just her, a piano, and some strings, and its just amazing and epic. she talks about it herself in that first post...but the line "we'll see how brave you are" just seems to speak directly to the listener. regardless of the story that the lyrics tell, that line and the long "we'll seeeeeeeee....." is a part of its own that is like a challenge...you can hear she is out of breath at the end of it, all her energy expended, and what are you going to do to match it? "we'll see how brave you are" |
