| I love this song & band. No..it's not about another person. It's MUCH deeper than that. It's about relying on God - who gives us life. We're still "learning to breathe" and finding that "YOU (referring to God) and YOU alone can break my fall". (the You's are capatilized here - but they are on the CD case) It's just that through life is Christ and we always try to rely on ourselves day in and day out. Thinking that our blessing come from ourselves - when through the Lord all things come and we need to rely on him completely. | |

| wow - I love this song. Switchfoot is my favorite band period. Their lyrics, music, passion...it's unbeatable. I like Switchfoot's version much better than Mandy Moore's. Although her version is very beautiful (they're both great). I believe it's 100% written to God and not to another person. Switchfoot is very talented - and they're an awesome band. I was never a fan of christian rock til' them. They're awesome. | |

yeah - switchfoot is my favorite band ever too. They're unbeatable...their lyrics, their music, their passion. uh...here's what I read that Jon (songwriter) wrote about it: "'Don't be There' was inspired by a bittersweet period in my life when I was growing further apart from a dear friend of mine. I will always teasure our friendship; I will never forget the beautiful memories. Yet, youth can be synonymous with change as we begin to learn and discover and experience life more and more. My friend and I had changed since we met, and our distance hurt both of us. The song is built around the conflicting desires that I had concerning this friendship." |
