My take on this song is a bit of what everyone else is saying, but different. In the beginning, it seems like he's talking about a shaky relationship he was in, but got out of before he got hurt again. Then he reminds himself that he's not thinking straight, but he doesn't want anyone else to know, so he figures he can just stay silent about it all and people will get the point.
The by the second verse, he's saying that maybe his choices are the wrong ones, making himself so stressed out that he's losing weight. Then he explains how he feels about it all when he's drunk.
It all makes sense to me when I look at it from this perspective. The song is really all too human ith no real "tricky poetic" words. The reality speaks for itself. |

This song reminds me so much of this girl i was dating. I used to never know what was going on and I kept her hush to all my friends. She used to never talk and it just pissed me off to the point where i wouldn't talk to her at all. Then i got sick and lost twenty pounds. This was the song of the moment. |

This song is the greatest song because i was listening to it trying to find out what it means, then after about a week, a good friend died and i had to read the 23rd psalm at his funeral. Then on the way home i was listening to it and it all fell into place, seeing as how the funeral really felt like a "celebration of life" instead of just being a fancy cliche on the programs we recieved as coming into the door. Seeing as how the "sub-title" to this song is 'The 23rd', i figured that just made sense.... |
