maynard isnt against christianity per se i think. hes been interviewed about this many times and he usually says something to the effect of hating those who turn a profit from religion or use it in a way to manipulate people. kinda like that icp song (why the hell was i listening to that shit?) when they make fun of those false healers who yell "demons BE GONE!" and make people on the shows pass out. |

i definitely dont feel that this song is all about capitalism but i kind of felt that tool mightve been onto a political side. since this song is widely thought to be about econmics i just wanted to point out that marx had said that religion is the opiate of the people. not only does tool criticize the instutions of organized religion, but the song opiate has a whole bunch of religious metaphors. also i thought it seemingly political that maynard affiliated with rage who are apparently openly political about their communist beliefs (but hey, im not a rage fan at all). |
