The last part about "rueing the day," however, speaks to me about the regret of a parent's child returning to the nest instead of fulfilling his or her destiny... This song to me is about someone who thought they knew it all... who had a bunch of opinions on the truth, but didn't quite hit home... and she clung to ever ideal and wouldn't let go.
