When I heard the song, I immediately thought more of The Virgin Mary. I have been to a lot of Catholic Chruches, and it seems that everywhere you find a statue of Mother Mary, you will find a box to put your money in as well. It seems that Maynard is comparing Mary to a Goddess, because in the Cathlic faith, Mary is almost worshipped more than Christ. And if she is the Mother of Christ and God is the Father, doesn't that make her a Goddess? So, in essence, to me anyway, the song is about how Catholics tend to just toss a dollar on the alter rather than actually pray and/or lead good lives. They sell their soul and their self-esteem a dollar at a time, because they are told that they can buy their way into Heaven. And now you know why Catholic Churches have huge cathedrals instead of little churches in your neighborhood... because they can afford to. |

| A Perfect Circle – Judith Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| I wrote a paper once entitled " The Guilt of Judas". basically it asked the question, " If God and the Prophets of The Bible knew years in advance that Christ was going to be born, persecuted by his own people, and killed by their hand, and Christ himself knew before Judas that he would betray Christ, can Judas be held responsible?" Seems to me, Judas didn;t have a choice in the matter. But, as you know after Christ was led away, Judas committed suicide. I think the song, for me anyway, goes along those same lines. Talking to Judas, and saying, " Yeah, maybe you led the soldiers to Christ, but they're the ones who killed him, you only did what God wanted you to do." As far as Judas being changed to Judith, I did a little reading and found that some faths, usually those more tied to Hebrews, believe that the serpent in the Garden of Eden as well as Satan are women. In their translations of The Bible (The Book of Yahweh) Satan is refered to as "her" and "she". Evidentally they believe that anything that can have a gender, and makes an attempt to draw man away from his God is considered a woman. Just thought I'd throw that out there. | |
