Tom Waits – Make It Rain Lyrics 19 years ago
By the sounds of it, he did something very wrong. The reference to Cain implies that he killed his best friend, who was apparently screwing around with his ex... or something. Maybe he killed her too. All the references to making it rain, needing the whip of thunder, etc seems to me as though he's looking for punishment, and it hasn't arrived yet. It's the same old world, but nothing looks the same... perhaps because of what he did, or because there's no God/Heaven/Hell to punish him for it. Songs are all interpretation, though, so...

Nevermore – Believe In Nothing Lyrics 20 years ago
This song, to me, seem, I dunno, hopeful. The lyrics themselves seem angry, nihilistic, but the way it's presented, the levels of voice used, makes it seem a lot more optimistic.

Nothing's forever, so count your days. Nothing is final, no one is real... Pray for tomorrow, and you're empty still. I think he's talking about living in the moment. Praying for tomorrow is hopeless -- tomorrow doesn't matter. You can hope all you want for the future, but the fact is you're HERE, right NOW. And it's 'Into a strange new world' when you realize that.

He says 'Can't we leave the hate behind?' When you think about it, living in the future or past is what breeds hate. If you're in the now, not letting your past or possible future dilute your mind, where can you possibly find hate from?

I'm an existential philosopher, though, so that obviously affects what I see in this song.

Demons and Wizards – Down Where I Am Lyrics 20 years ago
I almost wanna associate this song with Arthurian legend, and the whole relationship between Arthur and Mordred (as Mordred came about in an incestuous way, in some versions of the story). Even birth can bare disgrace.

Breaking Point – One Of A Kind Lyrics 22 years ago
This song actually has nothing to do with being "One of a Kind", quite the opposite. It sounds good, and you get the drift that it means R.V.D. is 'One of a Kind', and this is no diss to RVD, but that's not what the song means.

"Fear I see when I look in your eyes, makes you beblieve I'm one of a kind"

Makes you believe.... the key sentence in this song. This indicates that he is not one of a kind, and that just because you are afraid of him does not mean he is. If someone is being attacked by a murderer, you think that person is one of a kind - and that event is so tramautizing you begin to believe it. But, in fact, this song means that there are hundreds of these people out there - and that they are not one of a kind.

Hope this provided some insight for you.

Iced Earth – The Hunter Lyrics 22 years ago
I LIKE BEANS, you are wrong. It may have been on the Spawn album, but it isn't about Spawn. I forget her name, but there's an Angel in the comic books who makes it her mission to destroy those like Spawn. She is The Hunter, and Spawn is the Hunted. Technically, this does have to do with the comic books, but not Spawn himself. Just me being technical.

Iced Earth – A Question Of Heaven Lyrics 23 years ago
Another song about Spawn. See my comment under "I Died for You"

The time is close now, the end is near
My walk through the valley, trails of fear
I feel empty, my penance overdue,
I guess it's too late now to be with you
I'm extremely frightened of what will surely be
I sold myself, the death of me
I know you can't forgive me I know I'm on my own,
I've betrayed you I walk alone

About Spawn, who betrayed God to see his love, Wanda. He wants to go back. He doesn't want to be a Hellspawn. But he betrayed him, so he walks alone.

What exactly is the meaning of this
Just pawns in your twisted game
Severe pain for the lie I'm livin'
For a love I never could betray

Spawn is angry at God for allowing this to happen, how God seems no better than the Devil

Question me not say the lord unto thee
You have chosen your own fate and your own destiny
Denied of this life is what you are to be
You have chosen your own fate and your own destiny

Fairly self explanatory. Al simmons (Spawn) Made his own choices, and has to live through them.

I did what I thought was right
All for the love of my life
I know it's sad but true
Something is very wrong
Condemned to suffer so long
For a love so true

He feels cheated at having to suffer so terribly for a love so true, but he feels he did the right thing, betraying God for his one true love. Would you? True love is all he really has left in this cruel, hate filled world. Is it worth betraying the light? Is true love that powerful an emotion? See below.

The question that lies within
Is so hard to understand
It still tears at me
And in my dying breath
My heart holds no regrets
I wouldn't change a thing

Not exactly sure what to make of the beginning of this verse. But the end, even though most of these don't need explaining, i'm just giving it from Spawn's point. He doesn't regret betraying god, or selling his soul to see his true love, because it was worth it to him.

My spirit begins to rise into the heavenly skies
Just to be shunned away by you
Now all I want is to die, no streets of gold in the sky
And I wash my hands of you

His soul finally released(i cannot be sure, i haven't gotten this far in the story) he begins to rise to heaven, only to be denied by God. He doesn't want a paradise, he doesn't want heaven, he just wants it to end for him. And he "washes his hands". See, in this story, Malbolgia(the devil) and god are very similiar in tactics, heaven claiming to be "Light", but resorting to the same measures as hell.

Rising to the heavens light
Just to plea for death
Just to be denied-

*sighs* Such a sad story. Well, i've had my time here. That probably didn't help you much, but hey, every little bit counts, huh?

Iced Earth – I Died For You Lyrics 23 years ago
This is about Al Simmons, a comic-book character Todd McFarlane created, otherwise known as Spawn. Spawn is killed by his own employer, and makes a deal with the devil (Malbolgia) to serve as the general of his armies if he is able to go back to his wife. "For love i sold my soul", "My souls the price to see her."

He looses his memory, but knows what he's there to do. He wants to see his wife, Wanda. He does find her, but finds out that she's in love, and has a child, with his former best friend, Terry. "She's happy and in love, in love with my best friend."

This song is from the album called "Dark Saga", check it out at www.icedearth.com It has lyrics there also, as well as information on the album, which is made about Spawn.

Hope that helped.
