This is my favourtite OLP song by far! Its about letting go of the world around you, your past, the people who bring you down and learning to be alone. Relying on you and only you, and not being afraid to do so. About realising who you are, and accepting it without caring what anyone else may think. This song gives me strenght and courage to face the day, and helps me to be comfortable in my own skin. It helps me let go of all the shit the people around me throw and just go to a special place inside my head. |

The imagery in this song is so rich, almost like bob dylans at certain points. My favourite image is, "theres a black hat caught in a high tree top". To me the hat signifies the head, the mind. And because it is black I see it to be the dark part of your mind, the evil, the depression etc. The idea of it being caught in a high tree top means that it cannot be set free to fly away. So what it means is that you cannot shake this dark part of your mind, it flutters wildly in your head and will not go away. |

This song sums up exactly, a situation I've just got myself out of. An older guy finished it with his older girlfriend and I got with him. But he went back to her without telling me and still insisted that he loved me everytime he was drunk. I had to watch him go away with her and that little naive part of me believed that he liked me. The anger in this song is portrayed so well, her images so fitting, such as "the cross I bear" and "the joke that you laid in the bed." The song is like the instant reaction to your pride being hurt and someone you care for hurting you (despite your denial of your feelings for them). You want them to hurt, you want to make them jealous "everytime I scratch my nails down someone else's back". Depending on the situation, you can go quite insane in your wrath. This is the alanis I love, fiesty with an anger that pierces through you every time you listen to it. Amzing. |

This song always fills me with sadness. It reminds me of a guy, the only guy that meant anything to me, but he left over a year ago to go back home to America. It just brings back all those feelings of letting go of someone, of losing love, and in the process losing yourself. Nosalgia, regret for not saying what I had wanted to so badly, hurt, just wanting to leave this place entirely and sleep forever. |
