I’ve always identified Clan of Xymox and their songs with myself and what I’ve lived through. They’re a band that truly made me confront both myself and other people. Creature is one of those songs. It’s about realizing the “dark” sides of both others and yourself, and it keeps making you ask questions like: “Was I always like this?” “Who made me this way?” “Were they always like this?” But deep down, you already know the answer. And by “dark side,” I don’t mean something that’s consciously directed toward being “evil.” It’s not that simple. To me, the dark side is more like what stays unseen — for example, realizing that a feeling you thought was mature was actually not mature at all (yeah… I had to face that myself, unfortunately). Anyway, a fun fact about me: the person who made me discover this band is the same person who later forced me into some serious confrontations with myself.
