| The lyrics (and the single’s cover) had it quite plain and simple, the song is about a repressed homosexual man named David. Almost every interpretation I’ve seen has already captured that. Although, I don’t think enough people point out that this David might be referring to the protagonist from the classic American queer novel written by James Baldwin—titled Giovanni’s Room—who is, well, a repressed homosexual man named David. I’m guessing this song is written based on it. | |
