I believe Chris was down playing the real meaning. The first verse was a reference to Adam and Eve where he says eat the fruit and kiss the snake good night but it also is a double meaning for Judas Iscariot. He then references Judas thoughts about Jesus being crucified. Now the rope and silver chain is about Judas hanging himself after he realizes what he has just done all for a bag of silver coins. He tells the Rabi's that I doesn't want any part of betraying Jesus anymore he tries to give back the silver but they tell him it's too bad they paid him the money is now his . He tells them he doesn't care what they want or need and that he doesn't need anything
