10cc – Iceberg Lyrics 3 days ago
Defo a song about a stalking schitzophrenic rapist. Imho 'How Dare You' was the best album 10cc released. I was 15 when it was released and have been a 10cc fan ever since. They wrote a lot of tracks which today would be seen as 'off limits'. Other tracks which come to mind;
Clockwork Creep -the thoughts of a bomb on an aeroplane, Sensitive stuff cosidering the year, with hijackings etc.
Oh Effendi! - about arms dealing with an Arabic state,
Blackmail- one of my favourites - about a would be blackmailer who f*cks up and makes the object of his blackmail a 'superstar' - complete with a 16! second sustain hold at the end.
Headroom (also from How Dare You) - about having a wank. (jerking off for our American cousins)
The Hospital song- about 'getting off' on hospital drugs. "I get off on what you give me darling"- could also be sexual reference!
The Flying Junk - about a seller of drugs and stolen goods.
What always kept me listening was not just the sheer technical prowess of their recordings but the fact that almost all of their lyrics had at least 2 meanings. British double-entendre to the nth! 'Sounds' music paper once described them as "The silent superstars".
They were tongue in cheek- "Get back Des, keep it under your Fez- don't give us away in the massage" -Oh Effendi. A reference to an uncircumcised penis being a dead giveaway of their european heritage- cheeky and outrageous - even their name was a reference to the average volume of human ejaculate. Most people only really know of "I'm not in love" and "I'm Mandy Fly Me" - their albums were a totally different thing.
