"Spare us the cutter" may be simply another way of saying "Give us the straight dope", a common expression for facing something head-on. That it may also serve as both a concern about A&R cutting up tracks and also a 20-something's general bravado does not seem inconsistent with the young man's penchant for appearing clever. It's not hard to imagine a moment with a line of blow obviously cut and thinking about his career and thinking about life and all three come together with the reflexive complaint that becomes metaphor, "Spare us the cutter". |
