| Arcade Fire – My Body Is a Cage Lyrics | 24 days ago |

A lot of people connect this song with the complications of being gay or social anxiety...personally I think that this is a spiritual song - the body is the cage of the soul and "dancing with the one I love" is related to the gnostic teachings that the true partner / bridegroom of the soul remains in heaven / the pleroma. And being stuck inside a flawed physical body on the material plane keeps the soul from dancing with its other divine half (see "The Exegesis of the Soul")... The passage "I'm living in an age that calls darkness light" is also interesting and fits the idea that this could have gnostic undertones. After all this is just a darkened flawed mirror image of the true realm of light where the souls of the pneumatics come from. This line is also interesting "We take what we're given Just because you've forgotten, doesn't mean you're forgiven"... We have forgotten about our origin and the creation of this evil world and maybe we have also forgotten about our other half because we indulge in the short lived pleasures and false romances on the material plane... maybe we are not forgiven for that because forgetting is no excuse as long as deep down there is still a dim notion of the true home we come from... |
