Phantogram – Mouthful of Diamonds Lyrics 1 month ago
My interpretation is the protagonist attempting to find closure in the wake of a previous narcissistic relationship.

"Wake up" - Very first line, speaking about the fantastical world that the narcissist live in

"you're getting high on your own supply" - supply as in narcissistic supply that they often seek. But instead of this supply being outsourced, the narcissist is instead saying delusional things that are very grandiose

"you're still alive when you could've died" - speaks to how someone that feels like an absences, still manages to present as living

"the world is not round because of you" - narcissists believe in their grandiose fairytale that they are the centre of the universe

"You know I'm not around because of you" - the protagonist is implying that they are protecting themselves by creating distance from someone who they use to love

"You've got a mouthful of diamonds" - the superficial charm and charisma that narcissists often use to woo others into their shared fantasy and fantastical world

"And a pocketful of secrets, I know you're never telling anyone" - Under every narcissist is actually a deeply wounded child with a profound sense of shame that they will do anything to avoid, as narcissism can be thought as a maladaptive malignant coping mechanism to protect against shame

"Because the patterns, they control your mind" - Talking to how these personality disorders are so autonomous and very resistant to treatment, usually because the person lacks an ability to self-reflect because their mind is a scary place and they spend all their time trying to distract themselves from fact

"Those patterns take away my time" - Realizing how futile it is trying to love or save someone afflicted by this personality disorder

"Hello, goodbye" - The person is coming into awareness of what they're actually dealing with and morning what they thought they had

"Wasted, you tell the truth when you could've lied" - "wasted" suggests intoxication, but also emotional disinhibition .. the rare moment when their usual mask slips. Under the influence (alcohol, fatigue, emotional unraveling), they speak more honestly than they would while maintaining their idealized self-image.

"And troubles are on the rise 'cause you're in disguise, whoa" - Speaking to the phenomenon of covert narcissists which do not present as grandiose and thus harder to spot and identify. We can be lulled into a sense of safety when someone is showing vulnerability but it actually part of the act

"And if it isn't me then pack your bags and leave" - possibly speaking to emotional gaslighting with the narcissist acting like they are damaged. The protagonist saying they're taking of stand -- where they no longer going to save something that insists it's broken because they deserve someone who is whole.
