It makes me think of striving for a superficial or selfish goal that is only going to serve myself and when I reach it I find and the ultimate result is loneliness. I really like your interpretation too, it makes more sense like climbing a ladder and reaching the top only to realize it is the wrong thing he was going after or perhaps the strive for perfection, like a mountain you keep reaching the summit and then see that there is an whole other mountain on it that you cannot see from the ground and continuing to strive for something unattainable and every time think you reach the top, there is more because there is no such thing as perfection. Or maybe it just means that he was chasing the wrong thing. Or believing in the wrong thing. Attempting so hard only to be disappointed with what you thought was something else? |

I think you are all right. The beautiful think about music is that we can relate to it in so many ways and so many lyrics speak straight into our souls and it’s meant to be that way. It might be written based on a member of the bands experience or whatever, but if we only listened to music because of how it sounds (and some people do and that’s okay too) but I suspect people on this forum are interested because it means something deep and special to them. And that’s what it means. For them. Music is this beautiful creative eclectic and even ethreal when we personalize it to our experiences, beliefs, experiences and traumas. And you are all right, what the song means to you is right. Even if it means something different to someone else. |
