I know I'm 15 years late but this is one of my favorite songs in terms of writing... As a person with pretty severe depression, Fiction absolutely reads like a suicide note to me. The lyrics are exactly how one thinks in the middle of an episode. We can never say for sure even now if it was intended that way, but if you've ever been through depression, it's very hard to see it as anything other than that. Maybe Jimmy wrote it knowing that his addiction would end up killing him one day... I hope that wherever you are, you're at peace, Jimmy. |
