To me this song is about being in love with someone who is already in a relationship with someone else. I fee the love is mutual, but that he is not in a position to do anything about it. He's holding on and waiting for the moment to find him. 'Hope I didn't speak too soon, my eyes have always followed you around the room' is explaining that this is someone he has known for a long time and he has finally told her how he feels. The lines 'If I had a gun, id shoot a hole in to the sun and I would burn this city down for you' shows that he knows that if he were to profess his true feelings to everyone, it would result in a lot of drama, and he's not in a position to do that at the moment. So he is admiring her from afar, his eyes following her around the room. 'I'll be by your side, and when they come to say goodbye, we will live to fight another day' is fantasising about how it would all play out. People would leave but they could go off and be together. |
