Electric President – Robophobia Lyrics 4 months ago
I think this song is told from the perspective of a man losing his grip on reality due to untreated mental illness. He’s unmedicated, unraveling, and slipping into a delusional, manic paranoia. His fear centers on robots and technology—he believes the machines around him are conspiring against him or even taking on human forms. He hears voices that aren’t there, misinterprets sounds outside, and suffers from sleep deprivation.

I picture him holed up in a small home, possibly with his son or family, desperately trying to warn them about an impending technological takeover. He insists it's not a joke—likely because they laugh or dismiss his warnings. The lyrics are chaotic and fragmented, like a disjointed plea or rant. His words don’t make sense to others because they come from a fractured mind. To him, it all feels real. Sometimes he's confident in what he knows, other times he's lost in doubt. It all reads like textbook paranoid delusion. And yet, the lyrics are beautifully constructed—which isn’t surprising coming from EP.

The music reflects that same instability. It's fast, anxious, and disorienting—pulling you through the song without ever letting you feel grounded. Like driving with the car door open. Syncopated, arpeggiated melodies, driving guitar lines, and frantic drums create a soundscape that’s dynamic, dreamy, and panicked all at once. This song hits every note I want it to.

By the end, the energy drops out. Birds chirp. Then the authorities—or doctors—come to take him to the hospital. It’s not a willing surrender; they have to drag him away. Maybe his son or family made the call to have him formed. He thinks they’re trying to protect him from being taken, but that’s another delusion. They want him to get help. The final line—“You did what you could”—feels like his painful recognition that this is beyond what his loved ones can handle.

What a great song!
