La Roux – Do You Feel Lyrics 5 months ago
To me (a trans man (FtM) who has been out since 2009), this is very obviously about a transgender person and their feelings of dysphoria and then gender euphoria. Possibly from one already out trans person to another who is doubting themselves. Maybe a supportive ally to their friend. Even recognition that something can be difficult for one person and easy for another.
"Put one foot in front of the other
It's symbolic in one way or another
But I know it's harder for you than for me
No, I don't wanna see you divided
I step back and won't be reminded
Oh, it's hopeless, maybe you're finding yourself
There's so many, go be, please, be silent
I give you some space to hide it
‘Cause I know it's harder for you than for me"

The chorus contains one of the best descriptions of gender dysphoria as I experience it. Especially the feeling like you have forgotten something that you need and is as close to you as your heart beating, but also knowing that you don't have as long as most people in life. That essentially at least part of your life wasn't spent actually living.

"Do you feel like you've forgotten something?
Do you feel like it belongs inside?
[...]
Do you feel like you've been left behind?
Does it feel like you're running from it?
All the while, running out of time?"

And the social concept of gender and realizing that it isn't immutable fact:
"Don't you realise it's all just nothing?
Tell you now, that's the coldest lie
Do you feel like you believed in something?
And you never even questioned why?"
