I am a HUGE Bob Seger fan, but the lyrics to this song have always creeped me out a bit because of the choice of certain words. He also has a song called 'Lucifer', which even further supports my questioning of his meanings. The song starts 'a faceless crowd' meaning there is no personal connection but rather a cold, impersonal connection between him and the audience. He continues... 'the Lion from the streets, awaits the Christians'. Lions devoured Christians. Then... 'Blinding flash of light'... the word Lucifer literally means 'light (luce in latin) bearer (fere)'. This song is referring to Lucifer or a promoter of Lucifer, I believe. He goes on... weapon at his side (guitar) he flashes it with pride (pride is what got Lucifer cast out of heaven)... he continues on... 'before his legions'. Legions is a term used in the Bible to reference Lucifer/Satan's army. I don't find the word legions used too much outside of a biblical or religious context. He goes on to say that 'fires begin to rage as they engulf the stage'.... hmm. Finally, at the end of the song he refers to what has just happened as a 'ritual'. Most will think I'm crazy for making these connections. I love Bob Seger and his music, so I am a bit disheartened, but the words speak for themselves... and again remember that he does have another song titled 'Lucifer'. Anyone else think there is validity in my thoughts? |
