I think this song is about understanding how fleeting life is and wishing there were something else out there. The first verse is about how everything he wants to/used to know is gone and life is changing too fast. The chorus seems pretty self-explanatory, Gibbard is an agnostic (I believe) and he wants to know there is a God, he wants to feel like there's something bigger than himself or there's something to live for. In another song, I Don't Know how I Survive, he sings "Praying even though you don't believe / Just in case they are received / By anyone, By anyone" So the theme sticks with the album. The second verse seems as if the singer is upset/depressed and just sticking together by thinking "just a little more". Overall it's a wonderful song and I think it's odd it doesn't have more comments. |
