This song seems to be at least partially inspired by Shakespeare’s Tempest, and evokes the same feeling of a dramatic interruption to your daily life. “You’re just like your father buried deep under the water.” Feels very similar to “Full Fathoms Five thy father lies.” Ariel seems to be the narrator at the beginning, after the storm clears “revealing incandesently.” Laying down the sword and crown is what Ariel does to call Ferdinand to sleep. Also “sword and crown” is said to sound like “stolen crown,” which fits the plot of the Tempest. |
